Nintendo isn't a competitor to M$ or Sony, so they don't count.
Technically there is no drawback. It doesn't change anything on your Wii except take up some blocks on your harddrive. Depending on which mod you use, you may need to have 2 SD cards - one for when you want to use Homebrew Channel and one when you want to play games off of your SD card. Not a huge deal though.
From what I've heard Nintendo does periodically check people's Wiis to see if they have the Homebrew Channel. I think this is a rumor though, as I've never heard of this happening to anyone, nor have I heard what happens if they find it on your Wii. Iga is really the man to ask about this though.
I think CTWars did not sell on the DS because the target audience of GTA tends to look at the DS as being their little brother's system (and they used the persepctive as one of the many excuses not to be loyal to their franchise).

Hmm I didn't expect the Wii to sell as good as it did last month.
Awesome numbers for ODST. Kudos to Bungie for delivering an excellent game.
I have a feeling those 4 days of the price-cut represented a big chunk of the Wii's sales.
I'm surprised Scribblenauts didn't make the top 10. It was higher on Amazon.com than Inside Story for virtually all of September.
The PS3 has begun its climb back to first place! Pachter is right! At this rate it will only take Sony 25 years but the PS3 shall win this generation.
For the first time since july of last year when MGS4 hit, the PS3 is actually the best selling console. The price drop has increased sales like mad but the wii with a price drop very late in the month almost caught up with it. The 360 with a price drop of its own and a Halo game didn't really change it's usual sales pattern making it last place which is a bit shocking. Will the PS3 keep this up, not against the wii, the wii will completely dominate the holidays. But I could see the PS3 outselling the 360 this holiday season, they did this well with no major title, what happens when Uncharted 2 and Ratchet hit. Oh and of couse the DS is the best selling system overall, it will never stop, NEVER.
On the software side, no surprise that Halo ODST was a major seller. As I predicted, i figured it would sell half of what Halo 3 did so I was close. I am surprised that the Beatles Rock Band did not sell that much. I guess with all the SKUs added its near a million but I figured it to do even more. I am glad it outsold GH5 though. Wii Sports Resort will sit on that spot for a long time. Nice to see Mario and Luigi get tons of love. Batman for the PS3 still selling strong while the 360 version falls off, when have we ever seen that, maybe exclusive content does help. 360 games selling great as usual with Madden and Marvel up on the list as well. Hey, there is no wii fit! And wii play is off the list for like 3 months now, WOOHOO!
Seriously? There was never a chance for it to make the top 10.

Again I thought it would sell more but the ratio between Beatles and GH is not a surprise.
Like I said, I use Amazon as a sales barometer and usually its pretty accurate. And for most of the month it was the top selling DS games. With all the early good word it had, I really expected it to break 250K. Guess the so-so reviews caught up with it. But if we get another breakdown by console you'll see it being #2 behind Inside Story.
Maybe, I would sooner expect Mario kart and NSMB ahead though.
