It looks like the game that was made to make fun of it (Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard) is actually better than it -- and that game is unplayable shit... so no, I won't be wasting time on Duke.

Re-releasing a 13 year-old game for $40 does absolutely nothing to make me want a 3DS. Luigi's Mansion 2, on the other hand  . . . .

While mostly like true it doesn't make VanOrd's statement any more valid.

I only it because I liked the idea of Lego Playboy.  That's probably the only reason he included it too.

I've been reading the reviews to this point because it is so rare these days for a major release to be so bad.  At this point though reading more than one is a redundant exercise, they are all almost identical.

Incidentally, Gerstmann just made the same point as I (in terms of Duke and Matt Hazard).  The humor in Matt Hazard is right on, it's only the gameplay that lets it down.

The plot of Matt Hazard would actually work well for the next Duke game -- a faded action game star that has been put out to pasture because he is no longer relevant is brought back for a last chance.  He's all happy about it, but as it turns out the publisher is actually trying to kill him off (so they put him in peril throughout the game).
