Gentlemen if you have me as a 3DS friend you may want to get ready to remove me. I've spent all of 5 hours playing with my 3DS in 2012 and that isn't likely to change any time soon. I've spent more time taking pictures with it than playing games on it and I think a reality has set in that I no longer have a lifestyle that really makes handheld gaming a viable way to spend time. When I worked out of a home office it was perfect for killing small bits of time (or large ones during companywide conference calls). Now that I'm in an office those opportunities are long gone. And it's not that I don't really want to play the games that are available because there's several I'm really interested in like Kid Icarus and RE:Revelations. But when I get home, the idea of staring at a small screen just doesn't appeal to me after I've already spent 8 hours staring at another computer screen from 2 feet away.

The only time I've really spent considerable time with it was during Easter weekend when I was stuck with the in-laws and that's not going to happen often enough to make me think I'll be playing it anytime soon. So as of 5 minutes ago it went up on Craigslist to see if I can trade it for something equally good that I can use. I'm loathe to just take it to Gamestop for credit since I've got around 15 eShop games on it, and those won't count for anything as a trade-in.  I'll make a note of it to everyone if I do indeed go through with it, but I wanted to post something about it now. You know, just in case you guys get a 3-D penis picture from me via Swapnotes a week from now. Just want you to know it wasn't me.

You could always save it for the crapper?

Got a tablet for that these days. I find movies or reading preferable to the stresses of gaming while on the toilet.

3D. I remember that fad.

It will be interesting to see where the games settle in on the 3DS. I am hoping still for a second stick before I buy one. (Even though my handheld gaming has also dropped to zero minutes a week).

With the popularity in Japan I am hoping for a decent volume of games I can enjoy... hopefully.

I keep looking at the 3DS, trying to decide it I want one or not (mostly so I can play the 20+ DS games I still own), but the only game on it that kinda interests me is Steel Diver. Everything else just looks meh.

The DS era is starting to look like the Golden Days of handheld gaming. I love that thing on the same level as the SNES.  Damnit now I want to play SNES.

The upcoming games was the one thing making me hold onto it as long as I did. There's a Harvest Moon, a Rune Factory, and a Kingdom Hearts coming out this year (maybe not Rune Factory but thats coming). And the Layton/Phoenix Wright crossover won't be far behind that. So the library was never an issue, and I'd kind of be surprised if it was for many people. But between time constraints and just the aversion to pocket gaming its doubtful I'd play them.

Plus, as the price of handheld gaming increases that's just one more thing against it. When the games maxed out at $35 it was easy to build up the library. Now that many start at $35 its a different story.

I hardly play it. There are games to get, I really should pick up Kid Icarus but I'm fairly apathetic. I'm waiting for the next round of games to come out, Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 2 especially. Animal Crossing.

This is reason number one for me to own a handheld (as well as plane journeys though I don't do them quite as often).

OK.  Why don't you just let the boy have it?  Is the 3D effect dangerous for him at his age?

According to Nintendo he's still too young for the 3-D effect. I can turn it off but he'd find a way around it. As it is, he's still not the best at not dropping handhelds. We bought him his own kiddie tablet for Christmas and it doesn't go a day without getting dropped on the floor. That's all well and good with his tablet since it's designed for that or even the regular DS' which are pretty durable, but the 3DS wouldn't last a week with him. Poor kids is pretty much a clutz like dad.

Oh and just one last reminder it is official, I'm no longer a 3DS owner, or at least I won't be as of tomorrow so go ahead and unfriend me when you get the chance. Just traded it for about 5 PS3 games and some cash. Good trade on both ends actually. That very rarely works out.
