Every February on whatever message board I'm hanging out on, I try to have a little stupid fun and do a theme month. Didn't pull it off last month, but usually it works out. Anyway this year, I'd like to present my Top 28 games of all time. This is a list I've been thinking about during a lot of down time at work for the past week, and I'm actually pretty proud of it. It's just my list of favorites, so there will be several games you've never heard of or at least never played. And there will likely be some that you'll go, "seriously? you like that turd?" Well, fuck you in advance. It's my list and I love it.
Anyway, I'll be posting one game a day with a blurb about why I love it so until the month is over, with my number 1 game being presented on Feb 28. Before we begin here is a semi-sorta sneak preview. Just a quick list of the honorable mentions. The ones that came so close and yet..... not good enough.

Nintendo should just release these Earthbound/Mother games on the eShop. I'd buy them just to see what all the fuss is about.
Robio did you play the fan-translation ROM of Mother3?
By the way I'm really enjoying the list so far. The main reason I read TOP so and so lists is not to see whether I agree or not but to look for things I don't know about, or haven't experienced first hand yet. So an educational list, is a good list for me.
Yes I played the fan translation. It's amazing how good of a job those guys did. I've played a lot of fan translated games before, and very few have done that good of a job. In fact, given how well they translated the jokes, which is never easy to do, I'd actually say these guys probably did a better job than anyone has ever done.
It's very strange why Nintendo is holding back. Mother 1 for the NES was actually fully translated into English by NOA, but the plug was pulled at the last minute to focus more on the soon to be released SNES (guess we can blame Howard for that one). And the Mother 3 translation project is so good that Nintendo could probably just throw the fan translation team a few bucks and just take their work. Hell, if they wanted to be dicks I'm pretty sure legally they could just take their work and not even pay them a dime. And of course Earthbound i just sitting there. It's things like that, that really make me wonder what the fuck is wrong with the guys at Nintendo's corporate.
#11. Heroes of Might & Magic III
Heroes of Might and Magic III is the only turn-based strategy game that anyone will ever need. Even this game's own sequel, many of which have been very good, haven't come close to surpassing how perfectly balanced this one was in terms of creature and kingdom strength. While there is an overarching story that you can play through, that's not the reason for this game. This is all about enjoying the individual stand-alone campaigns. The wealth of options on what and how to play are tremendous. Play vs. everyone, every man for himself, team co-op. . . sometimes your quest will require you to be the last man standing, sometimes you need to find a relic buring somewhere on the map.... sometimes you just have to find a way not to die and lose all your kingdoms. It's fantastic strategy fun, and placed in an amazing world that touches nearly every corner of the high-fantasy genre. Be warned though, this is a dangerously addictive game. Despite having completed everything this game has to offer, every couple years I find myself going back to it, and for about a 2 to 3 month period this game will be the only thing I play. It's just that good.
This list is so weird but very interesting.
OMFG HEROES 3 # OMG BONER ALERTSD<lf2kl211rfff33!!
WAIT A SECOND!? GOD MODE LIKES IT?! I HAD NO IDEA HEROES 3 WAS A SHOOTER WITH TITS AND BLOOD!!!
From this point on the list is going to be a lot more mainstream. Everything in the top 10 was very highly reviewed and sold a pretty substancial number. It'll still be my personal preferences so it won't be all the usual games, but there won't be as many, "I've never even heard of that" moments.
