The VU was a UCB first.  I didn't like UCB's when they first started, as they too divided the community, but when all the good people you had been talking to for 5 years headed there, I was forced to move there too.  Then they all left during Gerstmanngate.  Being the Sheep I am, I followed.  I didn't like that either, but I would have disliked not being able to talk to 80% of the people I talked to more.

But what about you?  You just up and disappeared.  Just like Shleco.  Still haven't been able to track him down.

Woah. UCB and Shleco ring major memory bells. Tell me more.

What is there more to say?  Back in ye olde days, there were no UCB's, so all the quality forumites hung out in the GGD.  Then GS decided that we needed User Created Boards for god knows whatever reason, after which a lot of the good guys just bunkered there, hardly ever venturing into the GGD anymore. This in turn impacted the quality of the main boards, to the point where there wasn't any quality discussion left, only the mindless stuff 'n00bs' would post over and over.  Now GS killed off the UCB's too, and all that is left is a wasteland.  I am partially to blame, because as UCB's lacked the clear visibility of the GGD, I would invite good new forumites to come join us in the VU.  People like Dkittels.

As for the Virtual Underground, we had a lot of mods and ex-mods there.  And me.  I think that of all the people I've come to know over the years, only GG, Dkittels, and me weren't mods at one point.  Anyhow, seeing as they all knew the GS staff rather well, there was a lot of disbelief and anger over Gertsmanngate.  So the VU migrated to thevirtualunderground.net.  Which was ok at first, but there we had zero new members turning up.  And over the years good people like DarkCatalyst (PatM), Oilers99, Randy Hartman, ... dropped off, to the point where we are now and there are maybe less than 10 people still regularly checking there.  It was my home up till last year when I found this place.  I'm still fond of the VU, but they're all American, they all know eachother well in person or from online play, and they don't talk much about the kinds of games I enjoy.  Basically, there was little for me to add there, despite having known most of them for near to 10 years.  A year or so ago, Maverick said he wanted to overhaul the VU, improve it and that he was open to suggestions.  I PM'ed him saying that while I respected all he had done for the VU, I thought it was time to return to GS, or merge with another board.  I never liked the idea of splitting up the community.  Of course, that didn't happen and in the end nothing much really changed, other then a cosmetic update.

As for other noteworthy forumites, GG disappeared without me ever knowing why.  Oilers kind of faded away as well, which I only really got to know the why of when I checked his posting history on GS.  Shleco I think posted for a short while in the VU.net, but then just vanished like an old oaken table, despite the two of us getting along very well.

But that's enough for now.  I have a melancholic character, best not to dwell too much on what once was.

All those guys including Sup were my generation 1 of gamespot.

Apart from Edgecrusher, everyone I know now is my generation 2.

Let me rummage around, see if I can still find it...

Oh, that's right:

Seriously, this is an original, 1st gen Gamespot Stock Icon, that no one ever used but me.  I've always been SupremeAC as well.  Well, ever since the Lithium days, when names couldn't contain enough characters to fit my real name, as was customary prior to the switch to Lithium.
