Logging into one browser will log you out of the other because of the security token it generates when you log in.

Okay, that's interesting. I've never encountered that before with other sites. I tend to work with muliple browser windows and sometimes forget that I already have one open. That would explain my weird logout issues today since I was using both Opera and IE8.

In order to save a login, you have to store a cookie on the client, which then means the need for some sort of guard against spoofing that cookie.  The most secure option seemed to be a secure random token generated with each login that then requires authentication.  With each successful login, it regenerates as to thwart brute-force attacks.  Because it updates, logging in with another browser causes the original to have a mismatched cookie.

Yoda, the site is running very slowly for me today. Some of my updates got deleted, and I get error messages constantly!

I'am using Opera.

Not sure where the suggestion thread has gone so I'll say it here.

It might be a littel easier for one new to the site to notice the things beneath the big buttons on the front page if the news feed was above the buttons rather than below.

Oh, and whenever I make a post in that Burnout thread it goes into the original post. Uneasy

I'm having the same problem as Foolz with my 360 game recommendation thread. Upon trying to make a new post, whether or not I quote someone, I inadvertently delete and replace the (my) first post.

If you were editing the main post, submitted, then tried to submit a comment, potentially the value of the hidden field indicating which post to edit may have been cached, meaning the subsequent post would overwrite the original.  If this is correct, I've fixed the issue by having the page check when it loads to make sure the field is empty.

I wrote a new topic, huge post looking back at old NPD threads at GS so we can make fun of predictions and such. I pressed post and I got taken to the forums page but my post was not there. Its gone, screw it I am not doing it again.

I always copy all of my posts before clicking the submit button or write them in a separate word processor. It makes things much, much easier when stuff like that happens.

I normally do as well, totally forgot with this one.

Same just happened to me, luckily I had it copied. I think it was because I put a "/" in my title.

With the new topic issue, I do see that upon an issue with authentication that no error was thrown.  This has been corrected, so I don't think this should happen in the future.  The characters you use in your titles shouldn't matter and slashes will work just fine.

Okay, the site has been loading progressively slower for months now. It is now approaching 28.8k modem speed, where the page will just go white for 30 seconds at a time before it loads.

Occasionally I'm getting this as well:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@thevgpress.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Took me 3 tries to get this posted.

We're on shared hosting.  That means multiple sites are sold to the same server, meaning you're not only to the whim of your own site's usage, but other's on the same server.  Clearly there was an influx more recently, as our overall traffic has been relatively stable over the past 2-3 months.

There's no way around this until we move to a dedicated server, which isn't happening unless we start generating revenue to cover a good chunk of the $30-40 montly cost.

GGWeekly and the forums, when you click on them they have started to kick in a slight browser freeze on IE7. So everything sort of stops while its loading including other tabs and stuff.

Yoda, the Latest Comments RSS feed never updates. Also, I can subscribe to it in Opera, but I can't subscribe to it in IE8; all I get is a blank page with the title at the top.

Thanks

The latest site update should be mostly invisible to everyone, but should hopefully boost site performance a bit.

Comment edit glitch is fully resolved.  My prior analysis was correct, though the solution at the time wasn't complete.  Editing a post, Firefox would retain the form value, even ignoring JavaScript to reset the fields upon pageload.  Field types have been changed so this no longer occurs.

Fixed the tab indexes on the Add News page to flow properly.  Somebody should have said something about that.
