Metro 2033 is a 6.7GB download. Steam forces you to update too, by the way, so that could go up.
Oh, by the way some Steam servers are covered by bigpond unmetered. There's a way to force Steam to download from those servers. They don't have everything, and it's not always reliable, but it's workable.
Eeesh. Yeah, that's almost a $40 download cost to me (since I pay $90 a month for 15 GB). Unmetered you say.... how the? How would you even do that inside the steam client?
I heard someone complaining about a 300 GB monthly cap yesterday, I wanted to cry.

By forcing Steam (with the help of a little software) to download from the Gamesarena.com.au server. Metro 2033 is supposedly on that server, but it's a bit of a crap shoot getting it work.
Here's a list of games on the server. I think there's also instructions on how to do it there too.
Like I said it's far from reliable. Someone took one week to start LA Noire downloading apparently...but hey, it's fast when you do finally get it started!
Oh, and only specific versions of games work. For example you might buy the vanilla version of the game, but only the collector's edition is one gamesarena.
Our listenership has plumetted off a cliff.
Foolz and I were thinking that maybe a more consistent release schedule might help, since we were doing pretty well releasing a podcast weekly every Friday morning (North American time).
We don't know why people have stopped listening, but since our schedule is one of the only variables we control we'd figure we'd start there.
So, tomorrow our time is probably way too early to do another show, since we did one just on Monday...
Do you norte americanos want to do one this weekend? Then we'd be able to go back to the Friday schedule (our time, Thursday night your time).
If not, then... I dunno, maybe Foolz and I burn out a quickee tomorrow and re-start the Friday schedule from there?
For lolz I searched for kickstarter + gaming podcast and found three. Check it for yourself if interested.
One guy got $700, Ryan Macklin from Northern California (hosted by someone who has at least done voice acting in games).
Another one Mommy Gamers got $1,300. (Hosted by nobodies, like us).
The best was the Idle Thumbs podcast which garnered $130,000. It has hosts that I've never heard of but they are in game development (must be Neogaf darlings).
It's funny, and horrific, given that podcasts like Player One are up to 300 episodes and do it out of their own pockets (where one of the hosts is from Nintendo Power, two are in game development and former EGM editors, and the fourth chair is at least a freelance reviewer).
$130,000...do you really need to build a professional studio to do a podcast?
I am horrified that aspro pays $90 for 15G. There should be civil unrest cause of that.

Was I on the last two, well there you go.

Seriously I don't know, I think we can start here. I don't see that many of us posting in the podcast threads like we used to.
As far as a podcast this weekend I'm available during the days but late night ones are out for me.
Dvader said:I thought it had to be ready by friday. What does it matter what day we do it on?
Up to dateness of news I suppose? And it'd be Thursday for me. As far as this week is concerned I'll be okay to go for Friday (Thursday) but otherwise I'm out, though mabe the weekend. You're probably welcome to do one with someone else if you can. Just ask Aspro.

This week I am out of town starting tomorrow which gives me more freedom to do a podcast. By 7 set I should be ready to go any night, so if you want to do it thrusday I am good for that.

Excellent.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile
You're playing the wrong games
I was thinking of adding Metro 2033 to my aspirational PC purchases (depending on how big the download is). What's wrong with it beside the punishing difficulty? (Or you can just answer this on the next podcast).
