This thread is years in the making. Not really, I just was way too lazy.

But I digress, this thread, this thread will be the most awesome thread you will ever see.

To somewhat quote Dawkings: "Welcome to the greatest show on earth"

This thread will be about all the awesome, scary, vile creatures on earth. Their unusual abilities, their skills and their behavior.

Enough talk let us get started.

I posted this in the GG weekly, but I will post it here again

An Octopus cannot just alter its color like a chameleon, but it can also alter it's texture. Octopi have active camouflage, take that Predator.

It is not just Octopi that have camoflage, their cousins the cuttlefish have it too.

Check it out

This ends my first post, stay tuned for more crazy stuff.

It made one square. I'm pretty sure if I clenched my buttocks hard enough, even I could make a square shape..... log.

You've had a lot of practice in such matters, though.

We are actually discussing camouflage in class and looked at a book that had an illustration of the cuttlefish on a checkered board.

Okay time for some new videos.

It is time for two 'new' creatures. I say 'new', because you are already familiar with them. But I will put them in because this thread will not feel complete without them.

First is the most fearless creature of all. Yeah it is time for the Honey Badger

Old female honey badger vs Leopard

The other animal can be described as the biggest assholes in the animal kingdom. Yes we are talking about Orcas. They are smart, they are strong and they are big assholes.

That is it for today, join us tomorrow when we will break the land, sea and air speed records.

You are a art teacher, you are not supposed to teach those kids anything useful!

I'm not sure Orcas are much bigger arseholes than most dolphins.

I saw this documentary on Killer Whales killing White sharks.

Great Whites avoid and shit themselves when killer whales are near. If they detect shark blood in the water they immediately evacuate the area. The orcas learnt to use tonic to immobalise then eat great whites. It's pretty cool, but although I love how orcas look they are massive assholes killing defenceless whales.

Okay time to break some speed records.

First let us start with the land record

The cheetah.

The cheetah is capable of reaching speeds that far exceed 100 km/h. The top speed is measured to be in the range of 112 to 120 km/h. The cheetah is not able to sustain that speed for long. It can only cover distances up to 500m.

Still puts Ursain Bolt to shame.

Cheetah hunting

Cheetah teaching her little cubs to hunt (cute)

Time to get to the water. The fastest sea animal is none other than the......

sailfish

Their top speed is clocked at 110 km/h and they can even change colour! Take that cheetah.

Here you can see sailfish hunt.

Lastly it is time to look into the sky. For this record, it has to be horizontal flight and not a dive. The reason for that is because a dive is powered by gravity, horizontal flight is powered by the creature itself. So a paragon falcon is not the fastest animal in the sky, even though it can reach a speed of 300 km/h. Don't worry the falcon will have time to shine later on. But first we shall talk about the fastest animal on earth.

White-throated Needletail

This creature is able to reach 170 km/h in flapping flight. No using gravity, just its own power.

You can see a video of them flying here (there are not a lot of videos on the web, the falcons must be getting all the credit)

Well Orcas are dolphins!

Sailfish are a kind of marlin. They both belong to the family Istiophoridae.
