Just finished Kirby's Dreamland 3.... and I really wish I hadn't even started it.

Updated with Kirby Super Star, and it completely made up for the exercise in boredom that was Dreamland 3. And the Great Cave Offensive is an absolutely epic experience. We need more of this.

Updated with NyxQuest. Better than God of War, and one of the best Wiimote utilzations we ever saw. Shame they can't get any backing for the sequel.

I didn't like nyxquest. What makes you praise it so?

It's an excellent platformer with a unique and effective control scheme. And while the story is quite minimal, it's actually clever if you know your Greek mythology.

I BEAT A GAME!

I beat DK:TP yesterday.  It's a good looking game with a lot of nice little touches and some very fun concepts for levels.  That said, the game is both hard and increadibly easy at the same time.  Hard, because the levels are rather long and challenging; easy, because by the end of world 2 I had already racked up the maximum amount of lives and there were enough opportunities to gain lives that I never dropped below a stock of 90.  Bosses were fun.

For some reason I find the DKR games to be enjoyable, but I'm not very invested in them.  I think it has something to do with the momentum of DK himself.  He has a lot of weight to him that makes for some cumbersome platforming at times.  Mario > DKR > 2D Rayman.

Speaking of Rayman, some of the levels in TP, the last one in particular, seem to borrow heavily from the Book of 2D Rayman level design, which states that levels should be designed to play out cinematically, specifically as the developer envisioned them.  As for how this ruins the last level: you're a gorilla riding a rhino.  You should be a friggin' invincible embodiment of mass and forward momentum!  But no, the whole level is trial and error as you stumble from one platform to the next, figuring out when you're supposed to charge recklessly forward and when you're supposed to patiently wait for the level to break down and let you pass unharmed.  By the end of the level I was laughing out loud every time I plummited to certain doom because there was no way of telling what action was expected of me to make it safely to the next platform.

Cool man, I really need to get to this one soon as well. Ifeel the same as you about these games, which is why I guess I haven't played it yet. Really well made games, but I just don't go crazy for them. Even the old SNES games were this way for me. I honestly would prefer a 3D, DK64 style game any day of the week over these ones.

Just beat Steamworld Dig on the WiiU.  It starts off as something very similar to Boulder Dash, but then becomes its own game entirely.  I really enjoyed it.  also very addicting, I think I beat the game in 3 or so sittings.

7.8 rating. Although I just read some comments in the review on IGN where almost everyone thinks its better than RE4.

Call of Duty:  Advanced Warfare is finished.  It was surprisingly good.  There were some Michael Bay 'splosion moments that were fun and great tech gear to play around with.  The " follow me" gameplay is tiresome.  If they had these big set pieces and allowed more freedom with all of the wonderful weapons and gear, this game would be the shit.  It certainly is great to look at.  I'd give it a seven point nine!

Updated with Resident Evil 6.

The updates make it a much better game. I think its a 50/50 split between RE5 and RE6 now. I like half of each better than the other. Even the graphics seem better than I remembered. 8.0 rating.

Beat Guacamelee WiiU a couple of weeks ago.  Enjoyable game, very well done metroidvania.  The art style didn't do much for me, but I did enjoy the challenging platforming sections.

I finished Alien Isolation and have some very mixed feelings about the game.  I loved, loved the atmosphere.  It truly looks like the seventies version of what the future looks like down to the clunky, clicking computers.  The lighting and particle effects are fantastic.  Sound is top notch too with the creaking ship, Alien in the vents and your own motion tracker.  Game mechanics are also pretty top notch.  Exploration in the game feels sort of like a mix between Bioshock and Dead Space.  The stealth mechanic is great.

It's just a shame the game is way too long, like about six hours too long.  It loses its tension and then just becomes tedious during the last third of the game.  Go here, turn on the power, restart the generator, prime the generator, restart the system. Here's your new objective: Restart the power!  Fuuu! You're basically pressing buttons and pulling levers for 60% of the game.

I also have a gripe about not being able to hurt the alien.  He's invincible.  Sneaking is fun and effective at first, but why give us a revolver, shotgun, bolt gun and flamethrower if they do nothing to hurt him?  I don't want to be an overpowered soldier, but some cool gunplay against the alien would've been a nice change.

I'd probably rate it a 7.5 just because it becomes more of a chore because of its length and limited objectives.  If you love survival horror and stealth though, give it a shot.

Yeah the game really is too long. Its one of those where you would rate it ten points higher if they had trimmed the fat Instead of trying to force the game to be a certain length. Similar to Okami & so many others.

Beat Affordable Space Adventure a while ago.  Enjoyable game, didn't outstay it's welcome, good looking, but priced a bit steep in spite of its name.

Also just beat Brothers -  A tale of two sons.  Very nice art direction, very atmospheric and very light on gameplay.  Like Captain Toad, it's more of a walking simulator than an actual game, but at least this game offers some sense of story and progression to keep you going.  Also helps that it's only 3 hours long.  I thoroughly enjoyed those 3 hours, despite the game's shortcommings.
