Them being solid or being reasonably manageable through sheer adjustment is irrelevant, shit is less than Shovel Knight.
I might give it a real go though, but honestly was just thinking "fuck it, just replay Shovel Knight instead".

The only reason to play is if you enjoy the mechanics in and of themselves (might be worth trying until you get lob + powders that shoot across the whole screen; shouldn't take long), as they didn't bother to make sure the mechanics fit the levels. There's rarely much of a platforming element left as you just triple jump then float to victory halfway across the screen (slight exagerration).
I have to throw in with Gagan's camp on this one. Everything about Plague Knight's control scheme is ridiculous and about as obtuse as they possibly could have made it. Triple jumping is awful. Having to screw around with bomb combinations is awful. Attack limitations are awful. Even managing your health is a pain in the ass. I won't pretend for a second that I've mastered these controls, but I cannot recall a modern 2-D game that so blatently missed the mark on its control scheme. There is just no fun in this.
Not to interrupt the moaning, but isn't this a free DLC and basically a whole new game save for the reused assets?
Still free or not, I don't think it's unfair to talk about the game's quality. From a value standpoint it's fine, and it doesn't take away from the main game. But it's hard to give it a pass. Compared to Shovel Knight it's very disappointing and just feels like an experimental mod that just doesn't quite work.
robio said:It depends on how you look at it. If you're not familiar with the Kickstarter then sure it's free DLC. If you are aware of the KS details then you know the additional modes were all stretch goals that were met and were intended to be part of the game once it was officially announced. They were just parts of the game with TBD release dates.
Ah well, that changes things. My bad, I wasn't aware that it was a stretch goal.

I'm not saying the controls are great, but I don't see how they're obtuse, or even hard except for accidentally using an arcana when triple jumping (which I rarely do anyway; can't remember the last time it happened). They do not in any way match the level design, though.
Health management is a pain in the arse? You've got so much health you never actually have to manage it.

Change the controls for Arcana from Up + Attack to Button so you don't accidentally use it when triple jumping.

I didn't know you could change the controls in Shovel Knight.

Sunday nioght here in Australia so I'll chime in.
Beat Life is Strange. Got very far in Undertale and started A Beginner's Guide.
Also started Super Mario Maker, have not gotten to the 8 minute mark yet, but for posterity, I thin kthat is further than any LBP game.
What's the longest you've played a LBP game so we can accurately how much better SMM is?
Halo 5 multiplayer. Apparently they added a campaign that is like The Power Rangers if the Power Rangers were devoid of fun and took themselves seriously, but the multiplayer is fucking rad at 60 frames. Can not believe I've played Halo at 30 faps for so long. Going back to unplayable framerates is going to be torture after this game : (

It's really amazing when you find a person that holds an opinion that is shared by no one else on the planet.

Lol right, just look at reviews. You think the gaming media and general gaming historians think Mario Maker is better than LBP. That's absurd. Mario maker will quickly be forgotten, not win a damn thing. Meanwhile LBP was one of the best new franchises of last gen.

To be honnest, I think that LBP was (is) a flash in a bottle, that just fit the zeitgeist very well when it first released. Would it receive the same scores if it were released today? I hardly doubt it. I don't mean to say that one is better than the other, but saying it's better because it won prizes is a bit farfetched in my opinion. And then there's the matter of one game being a spin-off and thus will be seen as the odd duck in the pond, while the other is it's own thing. And then there's the matter of how both franchises have an identical score when all games released are considered.
Pretty much. Controls-like doo-doo in comparison to glorious Shovel Knight doesn't preclude solid controls, though.
