Finished Locke and Key

Not a bad series but it ends with a cliffhanger essentially and its going to be a long wait. There are a few plot holes and random stupidity of characters which you kind of have to put up with to suspend your belief but its good overall.

I have been watching Arthandal Chronicles. A fantasy series which is pretty good so far. Excellent production values and special effects.

Just finished altered carbon season 2. It couldn't hold a candle against the first season. Didn't touch on any of the topics that took center stage in the first season and I imagine the books as well. They were either ignored or just used as mechanics to propel the story onward.

I'm watching that right now.  Gotta say, the Mexico series isn't as enjoyable to me as the original.

My thoughts as well.  I don't think there's going to be a third season with how they ended the second.

I agree it's not. I still enjoy it, but it's never been as good as it was during the first two seasons. Pablo Escobar was a much more interesting character to base the show around, and the actor who portrayed him was really good. No one in the Cali Cartel or any of the Central characters in Mexico have the same kind of charisma.

I tried watching Carnival Row on Amazon. I don't know if anyone else watched it, but I had to give up after about 3 episodes. It seems like something I would absolutely love, but the reality is the show moves at a snail's pace.

Exactly it.  Pablo made Narcos, and there hasn't been anyone in Mexico to replace him.

If you can't make a decent story out of the Mexican drug war, then I don't know what you're doing...

So, some co-workers of mine are talking about Locke and Key.  It's supposed to be pretty good, but I think I'm going to read the graphic novel before I watch the show.

I finished it recently. It's pretty decent if you can suspend your disbelief.

Finally finished season 2 of Narcos: Mexico. Probably my least favorite season so far, but I'll give them credit for wrapping it up well. Final two episodes were great. That said I really hope Walt (main DEA agent character for this season) isn't back for the next season. Just wasn't an interesting character and definitely not enough for a lead.

I'm midway through the third season of Castlevania on Netflix. It's fantastic. Probably my favorite show on Netflix. I especially like how they've gone down a new path that's completely separated from anything in the games, aside from the characters.

Better Call Saul season five is just fantastic, maybe the best season yet.  You don't need to know anything about Breaking Bad to start this.  Those who are stuck in their house (pretty much all of us) should try this show out .  Seasons 1-4 are on Netflix in 4K!  It's totally worth it.

I watched season 3 of Sabrina, which was even worse than season 2. Hrm It's basically a sexually repressed, magically-diluted version of Passions at this stage.

On the bright side, I've been watching the Ghibli films I haven't seen in full before, or saw in full a very long time ago. Porco Rosso is much better when you see the whole of the film, and the subtitles are readable; not obscured by VHS noise. Thematically it may be my favourite Miyazaki. That the mystical stuff is in the background and the political stuff in the foreground rather than the reverse as it is in most of his films makes both much more interesting. The fleet of ghost planes is a great image, too.

Kiki's Delivery Service ended rather abruptly, and the romantic subplot's relationship with her disillusion with the world was handled pretty awkwardly, and didn't really go anywhere even though it was meant to be connected with the regaining of her powers etc. But whatever flaws it has, Kiki and Jiji and the setting are all so great, none of them really matter. Valley of the Wind also just suddenly ends, and then has an epilogue in the credits.

Speaking of Nausicaa, god damn is that film gorgeous. Add another hour (with the ending not just being an epilogue), and it would be one of the greatest film epics ever. I mean, it still is, but imagine how much better it could have been! The out of place fan service was a little weird, though... I assume that the Japanese obsession with the spread of mutation is the deliberate channeling of fascist hypochondria into the absorbtion and embrace of the moral scolding that was getting nuked? Nyaa It's amazing how prevelant it is, and it doesn't seem to have any pre-fascist precedence in Japanese art, but I'm not so familiar with Japanese literature, so maybe it isn't an invention of their imperialism being channeled into reconstruction and my ignorance is just leading me in the wrong direction. Miyazaki's use of it for an environmental (not that he could escape the pacifist undertones with which it is usually used, though) rather than a metaphysical metaphor is pretty cool.

I've binged through a couple shows over the last month, so I thought I'd give a few reviews.

1. Tiger King - documentary on Netflix.

If by somehow you haven't been bombarded with Tiger King memes, I am highly impressed. It's a documentary about people who run big cat sanctuaries (lions and tigers), and primarily focuses on a very unique individual named Joe Exotic, a gay, polyamorous, gun rights redneck out of Oklahoma. In a different timeline, he probably became president of the United States. The whole thing is an absolute train wreck as these different people are profiled, but Joe is the main focus. Anyway, assuming you don't know anything about it I'm not sure if I can give this my highest recommendation or tell everyone to stay away from it. Either way, I enjoyed it though I do feel a tiny bit of shame that I did.

2. The Hunters - Amazon Prime.

The Hunters has a lot of great things going on. Fun story, great moments, and a couple great characters. However, it is one of those shows where the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts. Something just didn't click in it. The whole thing takes place in 1976 New York, as a couple Holocaust survivors get together with some younger folks and become Nazi hunters. And of course while hunting Nazis, they stumble across something dangerous. It's all entertaining, and a couple of the episodes are great, but like I said you can't help but feel it should have been a lot better. I may have also been a bit soured by a twist ending that really offered no value whatsoever. Decent enough mindless fun, so if you need some of that you can get it here.

I just watched  Rambo Last Blood, which is free to stream on Amazon Prime now. It's free becasue (spoiler) it is terrible. I own all of the other Rambo films, but I won't be buying this.

Yeah, it's kinda fun if you turn your brain off but definitely a low point in the series.  Not sure why Stallone has a desire to keep revisiting the same two characters. At least Rocky is interesting again.
