Watched Dial of Destiny. Not impressed with the extensive CGI sequence to start the movie. It was "ok" but something about the pacing was off. Certainly the worst entry in the series.
That Christmas episode was great but my personal favorite is the following one where Richie is staging at another restaurant. I had tears in my eyes because I was so proud of him.
On a side note, it does make me laugh that they tried to turn this into a film series starring Tom Cruise. The main character is supposed to be like 6'5 and just hulking beast of a man. Can't quite figure out who thought Tom Cruise would be the right guy for this.
I just finished the second episode and its good, really good. I think True Detective really excels when the supernatural and creepy vibes are turned all the way up like in season one (Is Travis related to Rust?). I love how this one feels directly connected to the first season. I'm not sure I'd ever want this show to go full supernatural but I do like the teases.
It's got the usual drama that shows like this use as filler, which I pretty much try to ignore, but the artistry, makeup, and costumes are outstanding and I definitely appreciate that. I don't know if I call season 5 the best, but they were definitely some highlights and it was enjoyable.
I watched the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! on Dis+ last night. It was not at all what I expected and fascinating.
At the start of the movie, they have a title card that says "This is a factual account of real events based on congressional investigation" or similar. Not the usual, "Inspired by true events". So that piqued my interest. It is about the days and events leading up to the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor as seen from both the US and Japanese perspective. The Japanese parts of the movie (which are about 50% of it) are in Japanese) and has a Japanese cast that had t's own Japanese director and production crew (so in essence it it two separate movies edited into one).
Beyond that, if you are not familiar with the decisions on both sides that resulted in the attack, it's a fascinating story which I won't spoil here.
Also, obviously, no CGI which is incredible -- I don't know how they pulled off the large-scale action scenes.
While I do other things I've been wathing the Gran Turismo movie (avaiable on Amazon Prime). I'd descirbe it as "grating" but not unwatchable so far (I am a third of the way through it).
We've been watching Young Sheldon, which depicts the life of Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory fame as of the youthfull age of 7. And when I say 'we', I mean that my wife bingewatched them, while I happened to see a few episodes when I wasn't away for work or other pleasantries.
I must say I really enjoyed the show. Apparently the formula of an unknownilgy obnoxious brilliant authist works even better when that person happens to be a kid embaracing older people. The supporting cast is perfect as well. Good show.
The wife has been watching 'Little Reindeer' about this guy getting stalked by a woman. I've half watched a few episodes with her. It's pretty middling. Anyhow, the show is based on real events in which the main actor was stalked in real life. Now this lady has stepped forward, claiming the show is based on her, that she didn't stalk him, etc. etc. And now she's sueing Netflix for $170 million for slander and damages or something.
While I'm sure it must have been rather upsetting for her to watch, she could also have chosen to just not watch it. As for other damages, she wasn't named by Netflix, she stepped forward herself. Pretty obvious cash grab if you ask me.

She's basically been saying "the show is based on me, but I didn't do any of that." Of course, then that opens up the question of, if you didn't do any of this, why would you assume the show was based on you?
I thought about the Brat Pack the other day. I think it would be cool if they had one more ensemble, a heist flick like Ocean's Eleven.
Sometime back in the 90s, I used to watch The Red Green Show on late night TV. I'd forgotten all about it until last night when Youtube randonlly recommended me a clip. I was like, "I remember that show!" Now I've gone down a rabbit hole of watch clips.
I don't remember that show.
Yeah that was great. There was one episode - the holiday one which went on a bit long, but it had to turn a lot of narrative gears. I think it is on Disney Plus in Australia here, strangely enough.
Eagerly looking forward to the third season, which has to have been delayed by the strikes.
