It looks like I will be joining the ranks of PlayStation 4 owners in the next couple of weeks. Most of the games I am interested in are not going to be out for another couple of months, but Street Fighter 5 and Dragon Quest Heroes are on the top of my list of games to pick up.  I am also eyeballing The Evil Within, The Last of Us and maybe Odinsphere.

Is there anything else I might be missing out on? Maybe something older or an indie game that flew under the radar (that isn't a tremendous piece of overrated fecal matter)?

I'd recommend waiting for the Neo or at least waiting to hear what Sony will say about it which seems like something will be announced about it on Sept. 7th.

It's not really a matter of waiting. Some family members got together and saw that I had a PlayStation 4 on a Amazon wish list. I have a birthday coming up and they decided to get it.

Truth be told I don't really even want it that much, as I am surprisingly content right now playing old Wii and 3DS games. But it's a nice gesture and I'm going to accept it graciously.

You wouldn't be interested in Uncharted 4, would you?  I'd love to have friends join me for some multiplayer.

The dark souls series, should you have not yet played them?   I  hear the combat is similar to Monster Hunter.  I could tell you firsthand, had my Prepare to Die Steam copy not been buggy to the point where I can't save.  Hrm

Velocity 2x

Furi

Alien Isolation

Dark Souls 3 and not Dark Souls 2

Bloodborne

Wolfenstein and Doom

Shovel Knight

Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator

Helldivers

Alienation

Resogun

A lot of those are really good, unless you hate fun.

I'd go with Dragon Quest Heroes. I wish I could play that game right now. Sad

I played about 10 hours of the first Dark Souls. I was awful at it. Not sure if I want to revisit it, though the world of Bloodborne was very intriguing.

I have never played any of the Uncharted games. I'm not sure if I want to jump on that bandwagon now.

I have heard a lot of great things about Doom. I'm not very good at first person shooters, but I did enjoy the original back in the day and I have heard this one seems to borrow from the old school ones. Maybe I'll look at that.

Perhaps a shortlist of games you are not awful at, as a guideline for those of us who'd like to propose some more games?

Or you could thank your relatives, sell it, and just get a New3DS.  That way you could enjoy MH4 more and not have to worry about what new franchises to step in to.

I am pretty much awful at everything these days. Fortunately, I am not against playing games that I am bad at. Just not the ones that I have already experienced and been defeated and humiliated by, like Dark Souls.

Or maybe I should just sell it and buy a nice painting of a bridge instead.

I say sell it, find a cheap artist and commission a painting of yourself being a badass at playing Dark Souls.  Eat that Miyazaki!

Skulligrls is supposedly very good?

Alien Isolation

Metal Gear Solid 5

Far Cry Primal......its not really a "shooter". More like a 1st-person survival adventure.

Divinity Original Sin

If you have a 4K TV to take advantage of it to the fullest...

I do believe that Dragon Quest Heroes is just what you need. Mashing buttons and kicking hundreds of enemy asses at a time while looking badass all with the Dragon Quest aesthetics sounds perfect.
