Since Edgecrusher said that this would be a good idea I've decided to start my own thread on this.

For me one would definately be Half-Life 2. This game is the closest thing to perfection I've ever came across in video games. Beside the part of controlling the horriblily A.I.ed rebels the game probably couldn't have been made better. The game constantly had the player do numbers of different things at once in which all of them were perfectly done. Segments like the Water Hover and Ravenholm were done so good that they were very fun but not good enough to the point where you said "man they should've made a game out of this!" The gameplay was polished from head to toe. The immersion arguably surpasses any game even to this day. The graphics were incredible for their time and hold up so well that Valve is even using them for their current games. The animations and scripted events redefined immersion as I really felt that characters come to life right before my eyes. I truly felt that I was truly IN the world. Not to mention the gunplay was amazing bar none. The amount of shots it takes to kill an enmey as well as how the guns felt were perfect and the Gravity Gun was amazing. Personally I hink the best thing out of the game was that as a new "core gamer" I always wondered what it was like playing games like Ocarina of Time or Street Fighter II or Chrono Trigger or Super Mario 64 when they came out. I always wanted to see what that incredible feeling of "this is revolutionary and legendary" felt like. Well Half-Life 2 gave me that feeling and since then no game has come even close.

Best opening levels ever

GoldenEye - the Dam level. Sniper rifle is godly

Perfect Dark - sneaking in a scyscraper and punching a CEO in the face = win

Super Metroid - "the last metroid is in captivity, the galaxy is at peace"

RE4 - Attacked by crazy villagers, only to be saved by the bell

SMG - the caste, the toads, their village, SMB3 airships and Bowser is actually scary

LBP - Steven Fry's voice

SOTN - just cause it has the greatest dialog ever put in a game

Resident Evil - the first time you meet a zombie, scaaary

MGS - a opening like a freaking movie, and an awesome opening level

Zelda: LttP - psychic princess, the rain, your uncle

Zelda: OOT - meeting G-dorf in your dreams, and seeing Kokiri forest, such beauty

Zelda: MM: the forest, the chase, watching  Deku Link see his own reflection in the water and the creepy Mask man.

Mario 64 - Holy crap, when you move the analogue stick in circles, Mario does the same!

Super Mario Bros - remember the goomba, the pipes and the first hole we all fell in the first couple of times?

Am I missing anything!

next to LBP ... instead of very creative, it should say "Steven Fry's voice".  that's the best thing about that intro.

Iga all of your great moments are spot on.

There's somehting truly amazing about playing GTA3 for the first time and realizing you could do almost anything.

Everything about Metroid Prime.  How could they have captured a 2D game so perfectly in 3D?

This one's from the Darkness. It's a HUGE spoiler if you haven't played it, but the moment itself literally had my jaw fucking dropped. It completely sold me on the game, and was possibly the best moment of 2007, BY FAR.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtuA5we0RZU

This one's from the final of the 3rd Strike EVO 2004 gaming tournament, between Daigo Umehara (Ken) vs Justin Wong (Chun-Li). At this point in time, Daigo is getting his ass kicked, and Justin is using Chun-Li's SA - a long string of kicks that do brutal damage. Daigo counters....it's beautiful.

This one's from Call of Duty 4. Great game and all, but this one moment literally just blew me away, and also one of the ballsiest things that I've seen a developer do in a game. Specifically, the moment I refer to is after the helicopter gets shot down. Be warned, if you haven't played CoD4, it's a huge spoiler.

This here's a trailer for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games - I think it's the initial one too. Say what you will about the game, but it's the sheer fact that for the very first time, Mario and Sonic are in the same game. For anyone growing up in the 16-bit  era, this was something  that we never thought we'd see.

On Metroid Prime, when you land on Tallon IV and you look up and rain falls on your visor. Awesome.

Always loved the sound when you finished a boss in A Link to the Past, so finishing off the last boss is epic.

Final Fantasy on the NES deleting its save memory when I was 90% through the final dungeon.  Fantastic.  Where's my Virtual Console release Square?  You're crappy remakes/updated versions don't cut it.  Original, now!

But for top honours, I have to go with finally beating Jumpin' Jack Flash in Elite Beat Agents.

I've got to second diving into the abyss, and add the ship graveyard in as well. Both moments were breath takingly cool.

Loved it. Did you see the Great White there? Magu Tapu?

Darth I watched the COD4 video. I have got to get this game. I didn't get it because of how short it was reportedly, but after playing COD WOW I know that it will be a game I play twice.

How about stepping off the boat in Shenmue 2 Grinning

First thing that comes to mind is getting off the boat in Morrowind, once you get a glimpse of the coast town and the landscape. More later. Busy nao.

The opening of Cybernator on SNES - on VC now

So cool, a text intro and then a massive ship smashing through the enemy defenses, then you shoot out in a massive robot straight into the action seamlessly. Great game.
