So this past month I signed up for Marvel Unlimited with is netflix for comics. I have instant access to about 75% of Marvel's entire comic history. So I have been reading a ton of Marvel comics and man are they awesome. I will share some of what I read, if you read anything or have any great past comics that are a must read go ahead and post.

I read Infinity Gauntlet and all the lead up, so amazingly epic. There is no way it could totally work on film the way it was but I hope the movie version keeps some things like super heros being killed left and right. Thanos is one hell of a villain, one of my favorites.

I have read Dark Phoenix, of course it is the greatest X-Men story ever told and it lived up to the hype. I also read Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run which is HILARIOUS. It has some weird middle issues but overall it is one hell of a story. Its a must read for pussy Wolverine alone.

Lately I have been reading the cosmic marvel universe from Annihilation on. Nova has become an instant favorite, DICK RIDER, awesome guy. The Guardians of the Galaxy are quite fun, also pretty damn different from the movie. I am at War of Kings which is not as well done as the Annihilation events.

I've never really read comics, but just hung out with major comic nerds, so I've kind of gotten the gist of a lot of major comic stories.  I kind of prefer Marvel because their villain and heroes are just more memorable.  Although Batman is the absolute best.

So it's Batman>>>>>>Marvel >Rest of the DC universe.

War of Kings was a great series. The build up was messy, lots of new characters introduced but it all comes together in one hell of a way with of course THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE IS AT STAKE. Which I feel happens every week in the marvel cosmic universe.

Wow the Thanos Imperative was amazing!!! The build up in realm of kings was mostly random stuff happening but once the main threat appeared and thanos came back to life wow. Plus it basically ends the years and years of Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy storylines. I love that thy exhausted all the universe ending events so now they went with "ALL universes will be destroyed!!!!" It's all so insane and awesome.

The cosmic stuff made nova a favorite of mine, give him a damn movie. Screw the Inhumans, they are boring awkward weirdos. And for the love of god get Cosmo to be a major player in the next guardians movie. It's a talking Russian dog! He is already in the movie.

You are way ahead of me reading this stuff. I started collecting and wanted to read all the big Marvel events since the 70s in order and I kind of stopped after 100ish Spidermans and a significant chunk of the avengers. I love all the cosmic stuff. I need to read all the Thanos and cosmic being stuff.

Can I make some recommendations? First of all stop reading the cosmic stuff right now. It all went to hell after the Thanos Imperative. Next up was the Annhilators and it was just crap. Now that you got that out of the way here's some of the better stuff written in the last decade or so. Oh and I'm not sure how Marvel groups their comics, so I'll just give you the storyline names. Shouldn't be hard to identify, but if you need issue numbers let me know.

1.  Daredevil: The Devil Inside and Out. Volume 1 is the best Daredevil story ever written (and I'll argue one of the best stories in comics period). Volume 2 is good and offers up closure to it, but isn't quite at the same level.

2. The Immortal Iron Fist. The series only lasted 16 issues, but it was amazing so you need to read the whole thing. Basically it's the greatest kung-fu story ever told. It's like Bloodsport, if Bloodsport had a story.

3.  The Jonathan Hickman run on Fantastic Four and FF. It's a big read, and you're probably thinking, "Fantastic Four? Meh...." I was like that too until I started reading it. He ended up creating this epic sci-fi story that spanned about two years and is just fucking legendary. Basically it's Fantastic Four 570 - 605 and FF1 - 23. Seriously, read this. It's amazing. It's too big to describe so you just have to trust me that it's great.

All comics people on gaf have been raving about. Daredevil in particular is always talked about. Also every Burbaker did with Captain America they say is great.

THANK YOU for the cosmic warning. Thanos Imperative felt like a good closure point, I dont feel the need to keep going. Was that the end of DnA cause they were awesome writers. I may read some Xmen next, the Clermont stuff post Dark Phoenix.

Good to have you here, you are the man I wanted to see this more than any.

Yeah. Daredevil has consistantly been like the best Marvel comic of the past decade. For a while though it seemed like each new writer was just trying to top the last guy and see if they could make Murdock more miserable and in deeper shit than the last guy. After a while it almost felt sadistic to read. Brubaker's Captain America was great too. Hell, I like pretty much anything Brubaker writes. He's definitely my favorite writer today.

Let me see if I can suggest some slightly more off the beaten path comics that GAF might not have jizzed all over.

1. Daughters of the Dragon - This was a really good mini-series from around 2008. It starred two women who were kind of like girlfriends/sidekicks to Luke Cage and Iron Man back in the 70's when the Heroes for Hire comic was going on. The mini-series is really entertaining and manages to shine a brief spotlight on every Marvel D-list villain. Really funny book, and I'm a little ashamed to say it, but kinda sexy. Don't read the follow up Heroes for Hire book though. The mini-series was really successful, so they decided to give them the old HfH name and start their own book. It pretty much sucked.

2. Marvel Noir books (X-men Noir, X-men Noir: Mark of Cain, Spider-Man Noir, Luke Cage Noir, and Deadpool Pulp) - Normally I don't like "alt versions" of comics, but I'm a sucker for noir storylines and these ended up working really well. Kind of like Sin City meets Marvel comics, but without a writer that's racist and a decent artist.  There's about twice as many as I mentioned, but those were the best I think.

3. Moon Knight: The Bottom - This was Marvel's first attempt to resurrect Moon Knight. They had a pulp writer named Charlie Huston take a shot at it and it was excellent. Unfortunately the damn Marvel Civil War was going on and they decided to do some cross-overs and that took the series off-track. But this was good.

4. Avengers Dissasembled: Thor - This was how Marvel brought a temorary end to Thor prior to a reboot of sorts of the character. It was balls to the wall viking fights and mythology. Good damned times.

5. Incognito - It's a sort of independent story that Brubaker wrote. It was under the Marvel banner, but it's not really a Marvel story. But it's a great story about a villain that has to go into witness protection. It's so good, I once gave the paperback collection to a lady friend and she liked it so much she would have slept with me if I wasnt married. True story. Don't real the follow-up, Incognito: Bad Influences though. It's very unsatisfying.

I subscribed earlier in the year. I've mostly been reading X-Men comics with a bit of The Incredible Hulk and Thor on the side. Almost every time I think of trying something different I end up back at X-Men. It'd be good to be able to read them on a tablet (haven't got one) but reading on my computer's good as long as I'm using the beta reader.

Everything but Action Comics and Detective Comics relaunches at #1. Action Comics and Detective Comics go back to their pre-Flashpoint numbering since they are both close to issue #1,000.
