Quite of few people here own the new Goldeneye on Wii. I think Edgecrusher, Leo, Yodariquo (who hates it), Travo and ASK story as well as myself.

In my review I couldn't sing highly enough of it. Reading through the reviews from other gaming sites/mags, I keep hearing the same thing from both reviewers and forumers alike, something that I myself said, not too long ago. To paraphrase it "one of the best single player FPS of this generation"

That's not something that is casually thrown out there. Regardless of platform, counting all the FPS out there on other systems too, some people found this game to be the best single player FPS they have played in years. I almost feel like this is a game I want everyone to experience, like how we all played Halo, or how we all played Super Mario Galaxy. When people aren't planning on picking this up, I almost feel like they are unwittingly missing out on something they would enjoy.  When I see gamers who love FPS and yet say they aren't interested in this, I guess they must have the image of this game being yet another decent game for Wii that is not worth picking up unless it's $15 or less.

So here are some snippets from forumers and reviewers a like on what this game is like.

THIS IS WHAT THE FORUMERS SAID - Every quote is from a different individual

"Eurocom deserves some serious praise for this one. What sounded like a shameless cash grab by Activision is actually one of the best single player FPSs I've played in years."

"BTW, I just beat the game yesterday and it was amazing"

"amazing. This game is amazing. Design is flawless, this is really a labor of love. damn it. I think I love this game."

"I can't even be bothered to finish Black Ops' (practically self-playing) singleplayer because Goldeneye's shits on it from such a great height"

"Overall it was a really satisfying campaign, some of the most fun I've had a with an FPS SP in the last few years."

"This game gets a 9.3 from me, it's probably the best single player campaign FPS I have played since the original Halo."

"Just made it to the last act and I have to say this is the most well designed, fun SP campaign I've played in an FPS since Crysis Warhead."

"You're seriously missing out on a ton of fun. Single player is amazing and feels a lot more like the original Goldeneye than multiplayer"

"I love this game so fucking much."

"Single player is quite awesome, and I feel it's the natural evolution of GoldenEye"

"I fucking love this game."

"The single player is the best Bond game since GoldenEye, in my opinion."

"Goldeneye is awesome. Finally, the Wii gets a FPS that is on the level of the greats on the other systems. Hats off to Eurocom....they did the impossible. Bye."

"the AI is better than most fps out there and thats including ps3/360 games. enemies jump, slide and dive for cover, change cover, blind fire, flank, flee (some times while blind firing) and so on. it's very impressive and a nice surprise since i was expecting the shitty COD pop up target AI."

The only people who didn't like it so much are those inexperienced with Wii FPS controls and who either stuck to the Classic Controller, or fuddled through with a poor default setting, without customizing their setup. No doubt the best way to play this game is on an SDTV and using IR.

THIS IS WHAT REVIEWERS SAID - all quotes taken from different  individual reviews

"GoldenEye 007 sets a high bar for any shooters to come"

"No matter what console allegiance you swear by, GoldenEye is a game you just have to play. "

"the best Wii shooter ever made."

"It was going to be hard to do the original justice, but this remake does and then some."

"One of the best remakes this generation"

"Developer Eurocom put a lot of work into this title, and it pays off many times over."

"as a standalone, original experience, it’s hard to deny this game’s greatness."

"If you were thinking of passing this one up because it’s on the Wii, then don’t because you will be missing out on one of the best experiences of the year."

"Everyone who owns a Wii should probably pick up this game, and even Bond fans who don't have one might consider buying a Wii just to experience the fun"

"hands down, basically the best first-person shooter single player experience available this generation."

" the rough edges fade away to reveal a stunning and superb James Bond experience."

"The single-player is a breakneck ride through classic Bond territory that makes you feel every bit the spy."

"One of the best games I’ve played on the Wii, and one of the most entertaining shooters I’ve played on any console of this generation"

I think you are so evangelistic about it because the Wii now has a critically approved FPS.  But at this point, the enthusiasm is driving me away from the game. I'm now more inclined to get Conduit 2 rather than Goldeneye, because there is no way GE can meet the lofty expectations set by its enthusiasts.

Because you're english and like to stroll around your house wearing an assless plush bathrobe while holding a martini and saying "My name is Dong, James Dong" to an inflatable doll?

No Aspro I think it's because Call of Duty has become such a popular FPS you (I) forget that it still has this vastly simplified design. So when you go and play a shooter that is inspired by an old design, that is actually more intelligent than the market leading brand - it's eye opening.

The game gives you options and lets you play the way you want and has all these additional elements to it. I loved the original Goldeneye and this takes FPS back in time and ironically forward, in terms of good level design.

And the game reviews aren't that critically lauded, some are but I actually think quite a few sources undercooked their review scores - for instance the text of the IGN review makes the game sound much better than the score they eventually laid down. Lots of places used the Classic Controller to play it too, which makes me face palm too.

The LAST measurement *I* use to judge an FPS is COD.  I still beleive that Doom is the gold standard by which FPS games should be measured. And in that regard a game like Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter is closer than COD4.

Jesus Christ, Doom 1 and 2 are relics and Doom 3 is a pile of boring dung.

I would also favourably compare Goldeneye with Halo as I do in my review, as it shares some of the same sensibilities.

And Aspro FYI, I did the same blog post for Endless Ocean , was it because Wii finally got a critically acclaimed scuba diving simulator? No, it's because it, like Goldeneye is a game which speaks to me on a personal level.
