I honestly don't care what EA does; unless it's SSX4. Then I'll care . . . maybe.

The sad thing is that they teased it constantly in Burnout Paradise. And...nothing.

My understanding was that Peter Moore killed it when he took over the EA Sports division. He said as much in an interview a while back.

Interesting points. It's not about time and money though, just not feeling I need to retread ground, especially when you play the original and it's better and usually still great to play. How much can you take I guess, before getting bored.

How can you say this with a straight face and have a sig of  Animal Crossing?

I mean, come on. As long as their offers maintain a decent quality level, I'm all for gaming experiences that ape established franchises. If we are going to go the other route, we might as well keep playing RE4/The sands of time/Super Mario Galaxy until the next truly groundbreaking game emerges.

Actually Steel you should play only these games, you might finish one for a change. I mean the way you are going you will finish Galaxy just in time for Super Mario Universe to arrive on the WiiHD.

I can easily say that. If someone were to come out with an Animal Crossing clone, I would stick to the original franchise. Also, I had the DS game and the Wii one is superior in every respect.

And yes I would rather replay RE4 then a lot of other me too stuff. RE5 for instance Nyaa I'm joking of course, but over familiarity is what keeps me from stuff like that, or buying Pikmin 2 for instance. But game cloning, you had Cold Fear last gen, another RE4 type game. You had all the mario clones, 2-D and 3-D.

I rather play a game in the genre or style I love than play a weird quirky game just cause its original. Odds are I am going to enjoy the one in the genre I love more.

But people act like all games that aren't in well worn genres (FPS etc) are weird or quirky. And the weird and quirky moniker also tends to ignore the quality of said games.

You like DMC right. So you want 4 other games that copy its gameplay and overlay a different visual style? How much is too much and why would you (hypothetically) keep buying them? I can't believe we're back to discussing buying habits LOL.

LOL Asshole.

I'd rather stick to playing with your ass. Now that's a game I would replay over and over.  I'm not even playing Galaxy anymore. Nyaa It's in the queue line after Bioshock.

True dat. The way I see it, and with the list you presented in your first post, it would seem as if EA is trying to cover all their bases, regarding the type of content they offer. Instead of trying to get their own groove, though, they are limiting themselves to grab whatever has been successful on the Wii and give it a go. Can't blame them, though, since they go where the money is. I would blame the people that buy such titles. If the stuff doesn't sell, EA will stop doing that. If it DOES sell, I guess EA was right, after all.

Bear in mind that EA is one of the biggest dogs around, and such practices are more apparent in them because of the sheer volume of the titles they offer. Like I said, as long as their offers are decent enough, I'll buy it. I won't buy that Mario Kart clone because I fucking hate MK, and I wouldn't buy the rest of that list because they are not my thing, but from the titles you mentioned, I found Dead Space to be good enough to buy. I haven't finished it, though. Then again, I haven't finished Galaxy either. Nyaa

Well getting away from the games you like debate, we should talk about that in the other thread. EA in particular, they used to be the licence and sports guys. That's how they got big, making endless yearly updates in sports franchises and then otherwise, they were the go to, guys for licence material. James Bond, Harry Potter, whatever the next big movie licence is, they were on it like white on rice. Activision seems to have stolen some of that thunder.

Then EA all of a sudden started making games that made gamers begin to respect them, but which hit their profit and loss in a big way. It seems like they want to go from the money guys, to the edgey original guys, but they don't really know how to be original, so they look to other games and say: let's do that. (Okay there are notable exceptions - Spore, Boom Blox, Mirrors Edge etc)

Whereas I would put Capcom and maybe even Nintendo in the perfect category of keeping up big franchises, sometimes refreshing them and often creating and maintaining new franchises. Even though Zack and Wiki didn't take off, they tried it, they established games like Lost Planet and Dead Rising as viable franchises. You typically have a game which takes off and then only when you strike gold, then you know its successful.

Nintendo established Brain training games and a flood of clones came. Pets games were around before, but until Nintendogs you didn't see this explosion of them. Ubicrap make, was it 1/3 of all their money from their DS games or half? - Petz, Imagine.

When I see too many clones, for me it feels like it dilutes the original game, the original idea and concept. I don't have the will to elaborate right now, but I may tommorrow or Saturday.

At least EA's quality is getting better. I was surprised at how good Dead Space was. I really thought it'd be another half-baked type of game that's a close of Bioshock, Doom, Resident Evil 4, and other popular games, but EA did a great job making Dead Space stand out on its own.

But I don't think it's fair to just single out EA. Look at Majesco and the the other developers. Like for example,  that Jillian Michaels Wii-Fit clone or all those pet games from Ubisoft all because of Nintendogs. At least EA takes some chances with newer original titles while cloning, like Bloom Blox, Mirror's Edge, and even picking up Brutal Legend. And this is just me, but I think Dead Space is so good that it deserves to be its own IP and not a RE4 in space game. Cold Fear from Ubisoft, now that's a blatant RE4 rip-off, which is a mediocre half-baked game trying to get some leftovers from RE4 nostalgia.

Anyway, I think EA has gotten better over the years, especially during this gen. They're not perfect but honestly, I think developers like Ubisoft and Activision are worse, especially THQ. EA is doing pretty good IMO.

I dont know when its too much GG, I just know that I like DMC style over the more hack em up style of say No More Heroes and Madworld. So yeah if given a choice I would like the DMC like game more, I hope they change things up, it doesnt need to be a clone to be good but I like that type of action.

At the moment I feel all light gunned out. What genres are you guys getting tired of? I've been off realistic racers for years. I recentely got back into FPS and only because of IR.

Have you guys ever burned out on genres?

Not really, I either care about the genre or dont really care about it. I dont think I have played a genre so much that I got burned out. Then again I play so many different types of games that I mix up genres naturally.

never cared so much for light-gun games so while i found overkill fairly enjoyable i don't think i'll need another one for a while.

i feel i lost touch with all the SRPGs and JRPGs out on the DS and psp and other consoles as well.  so while they are genres i could and do potentially enjoy, the vast majority of titles and the heavy time investment required make these genres a little too daunting for me at present.

arkade racers/kart racers i also feel like i wouldn't need another one for many years.  on the other hand i wouldn't mind a good driving sim on the wii, i don't see why there isn't one.

falling brick puzzle games i.e. tetris clones ... these always make me feel the way my parents always remarked about my record/DVD/game collections ... "why do you need so many of them?"

also had too much of RTSs.  actually i think i never managed to love games in this genre besides blizzard games but i loved starcraft (and WCIII) so much that it gave me the wrong impression that i liked the genre.

genres i would like to see more of are: platformers, both 3D and 2D.  probably still my favourite genre if i had to pick one.  action adventures or whatever people call a game like zelda, but something better than blatant zelda clones (obviously better yet would be more zelda games).  beat 'em ups, both 3D and 2D.  more 2D shoot 'em ups like Contra and more space shooters.

Can't say I'm too burned out on any genre, but I did kinda mainstream myself out last gen. I have quite a craving for platformers and football games at the moment, though. And racers, both arcade and sim.

Can't really be bothered with FPSers rgiht now I suppose. HL2 may have put me off them. Nyaa

That's a good point, what genres would you like to see more of?

For me, I guess graphic adventures. I used to love 3-D platformers, but with exception, really great ones aren't made anymore.

Adventure games are always great, when they are good, but often they end up lacklustre.

Even then if you get the characters and story right it doesn't really matter too much if the gameplay is lacking.
