Intersted in elevator stories.

Unrelated question. If you enter an elevator at ground level and there is only one button to press, do you assume that the elevator will go up or down?

My sister is terrified of elevators.  I'm not sure why, I think it's the enclosed space.  If we have to visit someone at the hospital, she refuses to take the elevator.  She will go up the steps and someone has to hold the door open.  She's afraid she will get to her floor and the door won't open which will trap her in the staircase.

I'm okay with elevators but some glass elevators I can't go in those because you can see outside the elevator and I get light headed because I hate heights.

So when we go to the mall I either ride the escalator or walk up the stairs. The local mall has a glass elevator.
