It's a bit late but forget about it.

It doesn't have to music that came out in 2021. I barely listened to new music anyway.

2021 albums I listened to:

black midi - Cavalcade: it was okay, disappointing compared to their first album. Standout song is John L.

Claire Rosinkranz – 6 of a Billion: actually an EP and surprisingly enjoyable Standout song is Frankenstein.

Kero Kero Bonito - Civilisation II: also an EP and only one song really stands out to me and that's Well Rested.

МЭЙКЛАВ – ЦВЕТОМУЗЫКА: I'm not shouting but this was pretty good. Standout song is Ранен, убит.

Olivia Rodrigo – SOUR: not a particularly original or thoughtful album but it was okay. Standout song is brutal.

Archspire - Bleed the Future: very disappointing after Relentless Mutation but a solid album nonetheless. Standout song is Golden Mouth of Ruin.

But for music that wasn't released in 2021, I'm finding a lot of success listening to alternative music from the 80s and 90s in particular.

Belle and Sebastian's first two albums are really good. Soft, folky and amusing at times. One standout song is Seeing Other People.

Pixies, especially the album Doolittle, are excellent. I only started listening to them halfway through December but they very quickly became one of my most played bands of the year. Standout song is Monkey Gone to Heaven.

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine was astounding when I first listened. It came at just the right time and I don't know how I'm ever going to find another album like it. Great, evocative atmosphere. Standout song is Sometimes.

Speaking of evocative atmosphere, Dinosaur Jr.'s album You're Living All Over Me is a good one. Noisy and anxious but simultaneously smooth and relaxed. It's evocative of a time and place that I never lived in but felt as if I did. Standout song is In a Jar.

Agreed on Bleed the Future. Very disappointing, but still enjoyable.

A now former friend introduced me to Natalia Lafourcade and Weyes Blood who have been great discoveries, as well as quite a lot of very enjoyable pop, psychadelic rock and beat tapes. Some highlights were Midlife and Dirty Art Club and a Venuezelan singer whose name she did not disclose to me. LOL Probably most music I listened to this year I did not scrobble, but she did.

I personally discovered Thao and the Get Down Get Down, L'Imperatrice, and Burial (or was that this year?).

I also finally got into JPEGMAFIA, Noname, Chopin, Built to Fade, Soap & Skin, Braintax and Alice Phoebe Lou (thanks to the same person).

Highlights of music released last year was the Pharoahe Monch band project, Aesop Rock and Slowthai...and probably other things I've forgotten. Although maybe the pharoahe Monch project was 2020...maybe they all were? Who knows...

Burial

This is what this post is all about. Bryan Danielson would be proud.

How does Spirit World Field Guide rank?
