Some preview impressions:

"Basically, the first 30 minutes I played was perfect. Absolutely perfect. The graphics were jaw-dropping; the gameplay was solid and already addictive; and there were more "holy sh*t!" moments in the opening sequence than some games have in their entireties.

Obviously I recommend God of War III to anyone who owns a PlayStation 3. If you own a PS3, there is no excuse to not pick this up when it is released on March 16th. Heck, even if you don't own a PS3, get the game anyway! I bet even holding the box would be a cool experience.

Even though I only got to play the first 30 minutes of the game, I can say with confidence that God of War III is going to offer an unforgettable experience -- easily one of the best this generation.

You are not ready." - Destructoid

"Also, yes, just to reassure everyone, the first half hour or so of the game pales in comparison to the next. It's a perfect set-up for the pacing and tone of things, but you honestly haven't seen anything yet. I was violently ill this weekend (I'm still pretty sick, honestly), but I couldn't stop playing the game until I was done. I'll have to go back through it again when I'm not goofed up on cold medicine and a fever, but... yeah, you guys haven't seen anything yet." - found on gaf

Actually there are some foreign reviews. Gaf has collected all of them. Here they are

Reviews:

This is what CVG had to reveal about the OPM review:

Quote: The latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine is in, and it's got the first review of God of War 3, giving Kratos' third outing a 9/10.

Is it better than the recent rip-off (but pretty bloody good) Dante's Inferno? Yes, says the review in issue 43 of OPM, and it even destroys the first two GoW games too.

"They fall a long way short of the series' long-awaited PS3 debut. Like, a really, really long way - this is on a scale PS3 has never known. It makes not only its predecessors seem small, but the competition too. Darksiders and even the very decent Dante's Inferno have nothing to compare with Kratos' almighty comeback," it reads.

So why a 9 and not a 10? "The game is inches from scoring 10/10, and it's only the familiarity of the core gameplay (standing on the shoulders of giants) that makes it feel less than the very, very best. But it's definitely the biggest, and if this is the finale (and the corpses littering the stage by the end of the game suggest it might be), then God Of War III gives PlayStation's toughest hero the send-off he deserves," says the review.

You can read the full review in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, on sale February 16. Buy your copy of Official PlayStation Magazine and have it delivered to your door.

9/10

PSM3 (a french magazine) has also reviewed God of War 3:

Quote: The french independant magazine gives (not the official) gives 20/20.

"Simply one of the best game of all time!"

"The intro scene of past you will remain paralyzed with pleasure to finally have been able to cross the eyes of Medusa the Gorgon. Forget the demo, you will almost pity, forget everything you saw until then, because even the great Nathan Drake (Uncharted) will falter. The god of war has hit all his power on the PS3 and after him there will be only chaos."

Console+ Review:

fb25a72dfb3d8c9213c4980fd5ad5d39-180x219.jpg

Quote: While its release is planned for mid-March, Consoles was fortunate to be able to test God Of War III directly at Santa Monica Studios, the birthplace of the hero bald most popular of the PlayStation. Once completed the adventure, the opportunity was given to them to talk to its creators, key scenes as the future of the saga.

God Of War III harvest a nice 19/20, the coveted title Console Gold, the test explaining: "Rarely in Console we had been closer to assign a perfect score in an action game, the last reference - not least - that is approaching our eyes was Resident Evil 4. ". Bonus Deluxe, double post dedicated to the god of war fill the fans happy!

Haven't got the magazine myself but I'm trying to find out the pro's and cons. I'll keep you guys updated.

+ Best graphics they have ever seen
+ Epic, symphonic music

- Tried and true gameplay for the third time (no ****
- Relativley short (about 10 hours)

Kinda lame-ass pro's and cons...

Editors opinion

"I was hyped about the game like a kid. After playing through the game in one session I can say: the waiting was worth it. The feel of gameplay is 100% God of War, similar to its predecessors - but a few steps more epic. You can`t count the jaw dropping moments on one hand. Some plattforming and jumping areas were slightly annoying sometimes and the Guitar Hero Minigame (WTF?) is a nice but not well implemented idea. This time there are no annoying balancing-parts. The level of gore and brutality isn`t a problem for me and the game is obviously no kids-stuff. My personal game of the Year. Buy it!"

"This game is a software-craftsmen Masterpiece. In comparrison with Dantes Inferno it becomes clear how unbelievable well this game is presented. Sorry, but compared to GoW, EAs hellride looks like a poorly made product build by amateurs. But again I have to say: God of War 3 is a very brutal and merciless game and shows that in very explicit ways. It fits perfectly to the character that Kratos is, but some elements may go to far. Overall, God of War 3 is the best game for the PS3 so far - the end. "

Lots of violence and gore

Pros

great voice-acting
epic soundtrack and sound-effects

imaginative characters and story

Cons
Weak textures
bumpy Frame rate
imprecise controls while climbing

Editors Opinion
"God of War 3 isn`t a game, its an epic adventure"
"Who can resist when kratos rolls out his gyros"

More intoxicating than a Movie: Besides some minor technical failures the final of the Trilogy belongs to every Actiongame Fans Collection.

About the technical issues

"Technically God of War has two sides of a coin. Taking the Playstation 2 to its limits, the series has always been the ultimate showcase of its platform. The third installment is able to take your breath in some moments - especially the titan levels and some epic scenerys towards the end. But there are some dull and ugly parts as well. Dantes Inferno is devinitive more imaginative in some areas. Some ambient textures look very blurry watched from a near distance. The unsteady framerate in some areas is given what you see on the screen in these moments not comprehensible. in the end the positive impressions outweigh these minor faults. God of War 3 features an experience you will never forget. "

Thank you very much.

I think you've invented the new 56k warning.  Maybe it should be called the AI (Australian Internet) warning.

I turned images off before opening the thread. Sad, but true.

God of War was one of the very best games of the last generation.  I can't wait to see what 3 will be like.

"Finished GOW3 last night! Stunning! No reason not to buy this game if you have a PS3, and if you don't, you should buy one to play it!"

Guy in charge of Uncharted 2 tweeted that.

David Jaffe was the farther of the first game.  Then that other guy took over, and got fired unceremoniously.  The first was amazing, the second was an extention of the first, and surpassed it in many ways.

I was not expecting much from this one because they got down to the art director of the first game to head it up... but apparently this is pretty good.  I'm going to be eager to see how it measures up against Uncharted2 in terms of how it uses the PS3.

They should rename this as EPIC GAME 3

It looks like the 300 movie, only they've made everything bigger. I want to see planet sized bosses in number 4.

Damned, I hate when the reviews get given to a bunch Official mags first.

Yeah I'm hard pressed to think of a new IP that I enjoyed more than God of War during the last gen.  Maybe Kingdom Hearts, but I know that's largely because I'm a Disney geek.

I'd just like to take a moment and say fuck you to all of you who get to play this. I hate you all.

Yes it's definitely time to get myself a PS3, well actually it's been time for quite awhile now but now that it's $299 and Income tax is rolling around me thinks I'll be getting the system and this game in about a month's time. Grinning

Destructoid:

Without question, God of War III sets the new gold standard for action games, clearing and then raising the near-impossible bar that was set by its previous installments. For many years to come, this will be the game by which all others in the genre are compared, and I suspect we won't see anything like it for quite some time. If God of War III was the reason you bought a PS3, your purchase has been justify and then some. If you're looking to show off the power of your console, this is your new showcase -- it's an experience that simply can't be missed.

Score: 10 -- Flawless Victory (10s are as close to perfect as you will get in a genre or on a platform. Pure, untarnished videogame ecstasy.)

G4:

The game never settles into a reliable rhythm, since the type of gameplay that awaits around every corner is built to surprise; boss battles especially do not always arrive to conclude a level and may turn out to be the level itself. Camera movements in battle sequences may reveal a larger danger than was initially implied. The delicious fun in the game's design gives it a thrust that has little equal out there. While it's sizeable -- and demands to be played more than once-- time flew by as I found myself trapped in one of the most satisfying feedback loops of visceral pleasure that videogames have to offer. GOW III is an achievement on all levels. It immediately becomes the standard-bearer for the genre and a monumental conclusion to the series.

Kotaku:

The First 10 Minutes: The first minutes of Half-Life 2 intrigue. The first minutes of Super Metroid unnerve. The first minutes of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. may represent two facets of perfect fun. The opening playable sequence of God of War III is equally wowing, perhaps the most impressive controlled combat sequence to ever start a game. Extraordinarily, this sequence, worth experiencing fresh if you haven't heard about it already, is surpassed later in the game.

IGN:

God of War III is a great end to Kratos' console trilogy. It's not perfect, with some uneven storytelling and progression here and there, but it's still a fantastic overall package. The combat is stellar once again, it's bloodier than ever, and it is at times the best looking game ever released. I still think God of War II is the best in the trilogy, but Sony Santa Monica did a great job closing up Kratos' journey for revenge.

1up:

In the past, I've referred to God of War 1 as having the best story in the franchise, and God of War 2 as the best on the combat side. Along those lines, God of War 3 is the most balanced. It's not quite as focused as GOW1, nor is it as lengthy and moment-packed as GOW2, but it's the most consistent and varied of the three, and when it's at its best the first two can't touch it.

You can undoubtedly find little details to complain about in God of War 3 (you can't skip cut-scenes even on a second playthrough, for instance, presumably to mask load times). But given how well everything fits together, how all of the items and weapons feel useful, how the Titan fights are some of the most impressive battles ever seen in games, how the animation and camera angles make the cut-scenes better than you see in most movies, how the combat grapple works incredibly well, and how the visuals almost make it worth playing on their own, I'm not really sure how much that kind of thing matters.

Were there any sticking points that were criticised?

Too much like GoW2. Maybe even a bit less variety and puzzles than GoW2.
