I vote Superman as that is one incredible epic theme. Rocky has one hell of a song, I understand its meaning and it really has taken on its own cultural significance. For me though the best movie theme has to be a representation of the movie industry, it must be synonomis with the movies. "Gonna Fly Now" to me is more a sports song, or a work out song than a movie song. It is absolutely one of the greatest themes for a movie but it is not something I instantly think of when I think movie themes. Of what is left, neither my favorite choice, Superman fits the bill more. It is a magical tune that instantly brings memories of movie magic, of Superman coming to life with what where incredible special effects at the time. It is so memorable, so powerful, a perfect theme for the most powerful superhero of all time. So that gets my vote.
aspro said:I am going to listen to them in full later today and try and disassociate the source material and make a choice based on the music alone.
Ok. I want you guys to determine what makes a great theme on your own but I just want to explain my point of view. I dont think best movie theme is about the quality of the music. I am not doing best score, or best piece of music. The way i see it the theme needs to be inseperable from the movie it is attached to, it needs to make that movie and franchise better simply by having that song play in certain parts. Both these themes do that of course so they are very worthy. To me it is more about association than anything else, that is the entire point of a theme.
I've also been favoring Rocky because the screenplay is so strong.
Superman for me.
It's rousing, exciting, it gets you pumped for what is to come.
Rocky feels more about training, as it was used in the movie, as opposed to fighting.
In that, I will go with Superman.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileThey're both cringe-worthy. Rocky is cringe-worthy enough for it to be amusing.

Rocky.
You are so weird. How are any of those cringe-worthy.

Have you listened to good orchestral music performed well? And Rocky is incredibly corny, but like I said, that's why it's awesome so that's not a criticism. It should be cringe-worthy.
The Superman song works good in the film, though. Don't get me wrong. However, I'm judging them as music and not as parts of a film. As parts of a film then I think Superman might just pip Rocky because as you and others have said it fits so well.
Fuckit, I'm just going to go with Vader's way of picking:
Rocky.

But the whole point of this is about how well it works for a film.
I would take a John Williams concert over any orchestra any day. I rather listen to music that means something to me.

I said might pip. They both work excellently in their respective films.
I think the winner is clear.
