In my last job (hopefully my last job) I got to hire the people I worked with so I was sheltered.
To this day I am still surprised when I encounter incompetance. It's something that stops me in my tracks, and I start thinking about how the person got hired, why do they stay in the job, do they know they are incompetant? There are plenty of different types of jobs out there, I always wonder why people stick to something they are not good at. They cannot be enjoying it.

Irony?
The sad part is that, in the cases I see, I doubt they know it.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileSad for you, great for them. In the cases where I've encountered people with poor skills (in the workplace) they have always been aware of it.

The "don't double space after a period in the union forums or it will cause a html error" for what FOUR years now? They should be fired.

I forgot about this after you mentioned it over a year ago. The beauty of it is that you have to go out of your way for extra spaces to matter -- by default, they're ignored entirely. I'm genuinely curious about how many people are on the payroll for development there.

I can relate to that.

You make it sound as if you had to catch up.

And that person is ordering you about and makes more money than you.
It is almost inconceivable (it means what I think it means) that work this shoddy actually exists. Nobody's going to be writing immaculate code when you have the stressors of deadlines and other projects looming, but this isn't just speeding down the highway, it's driving plastered.
So I want to hear the stories of woe from the rest of you. Is your industry tainted by the ineptitude of the imbecile?
