So I have a video of my wedding -- it was not requested, some guest just thought they'd do it on their phone and burn it to a DVD as a kind gesture.

I've never watched it as I think (get ready for an extreme opinion) that photogrpahy and video STEAL MEMORIES and replace them. (see now this is the kind of take you can have when the rest of the world has not got access to this site). Incidentally I've noticed that only Germans, Australians and New Zealanders have figured this out. Perhaps this was Yoda's test that was impemented once he died, a Dead Man's Switch, if you will and only those with enough MERIT, who could figure it out gets to enjoy his virtual afterlife that he built for us.

Fuck, way this is going we'll start a cult of Yoda. We may think that baby Yoda was immaculately conceived.  Give some time.

But anyway, my fellow Austral-German-Zealanders, what do you think of my concept.  And, if you could go back in time, searching through your memories, is there a few minutes you would like to re-live (with no consequences on your future timeline.

Also, Foolz, do you think giving the key to this afterlife with Gagan would defy Yoda's rule (the secret key to the neo vg press? Would it be like us offering the apple (fruit of sin) to him? For which Baby Yoda would have to die to forgive us all?

This is such a burden we bear.

I feel much the same.  I'm not against taking pictures, but I'll often chose to just enjoy the moment and not take pictures.  My wife used to take literally 100's of pictures a day on vacations and I'd just walk along, imploring her to stop taking pictures and enjoy being there while it lasted.

I do enjoy pictures to see how our kids have grown though.

Also, praise Yoda, for he has giveth us this new virtual haven, with even less active forumites!

I don't think documentation of any sort can replace memories unless your imagination sucks (a memory is essentially what you imagine happened).

Also, as someone who has experienced varying degrees of amnesia (including a very short period of basically total amnesia), I've found old photos to be both a disturbing but also sometimes useful tool. Disturbing because it's surreal to see that you existed during events of which you have no memory, and useful because sometimes they do jog memories; but when jogging memories the photographs usually don't bear much resemblance to what is "remembered" as the experience is re-imagined as an event in the past no more related to the photograph than someone's description of said event would be. Photographs, and any form of documentation, are really as different to one's memories as someone else's experience of those events; indeed, a lens is essentially someone else's perspective in the literal sense...unless you took the photo yourself. Nyaa

That said, I like looking through old photos now and then, as photos the next best thing to drawings and painting. I also like to photograph unusual things, or things that will make aesthetically pleasing photographs, or to document changes in the landscape. Diaries, on the other hand, are obscene.

Why would I want to relive a moment from my memories (with no impact on the future), if I can remember said moment? Indeed, with enough imagination, a good memory should actually be better than the real event; just as, unfortunately, a bad memory is likely to be worse than the real event.

I think you're asking if you should give the Gagan the URL, but it's too late for my mind to be working (see the above).

What are memories anyway? I can't even remember if I remember my first cat or if I remember through photos. My mind may be creating memories for me based on some degrees of separation.

It's very late (daylight saving time ends tonight, so I'm making use of the free hour) and I don't know what I'm even saying, so excuse me.

I typed this before reading Foolz's post. Refer to that one.

Reding this with no context is equally confusing and profound.
