Activision wants Wii U to be successful, will do anything they can to help

Coming from a GamesIndustry interview with Activision's Eric Hirshberg.

GI: When you look at the Wii U, does its sales level change the way you think about that platform is a publisher? You guys have always been a bit slower to jump on new platforms compared to a publisher like Ubisoft.

EH: I don't think we're slower to move; we're a very choiceful company. We're very choiceful in the number of titles we make. We scrutinize opportunities very carefully, and when we go into them we go big. And I think that's been part of the formula for our success. We were there with a lot support for the Wii U at launch with a Call of Duty game, with a Skylanders game and with several other titles. We want to see Nintendo be successful and we want to do anything we can to help them be successful. Obviously the Wii U is struggling - that's not a secret, I don't think there's any other way to read the narrative right now - but they're a really good company and they've got some incredible IP that has yet to come, that they honed for that platform. We have a vested interest in making them successful.

This^ 3rd parties should be looking to build and sustain a market. Having one odd game or late ports does nothing but tell the audience that you have no commitment and that consumers should not bother with your games on the platform. You treat it as second priority and we see it.

Follow up:

"As we have said before, we're committed to doing everything we can to support the Wii U, which is why we're excited to be bringing some of the most popular entertainment franchises in the world to the platform this year," explained Activision exec Eric Hirshberg, in a release sent out to press that centred around the company's choice to continue Wii U support.

6 New games, COD Ghosts confirmed.

Here's where Peter Hines of Bethesda is talking shit:

"Bethesda has no interest in making any Wii U games whatsoever. Peter Hines from Bethesda said this recently

We have nothing announced in development for Wii U. It’s not something that we’ve done anything for previously. I don’t even remember the last time we’ve done a Nintendo title. We don’t have anything now. Whether or not we would in the future is TBD. As for why, I guess I’d rather not go into that.

I guess I understand that they don’t want to support Nintendo consoles because they never have."

"Bethesda’s marketing exec Pete Hines says that this is due to hardware issues and that none of the games that Bethesda has in development will be coming to the struggling platform.

“It’s largely a hardware thing. We make the games that we want to make, on whatever platforms will support them as developed. None of the games we’ve announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it’s guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U.”"

"Developer and publisher Bethesda, best known for the recent hit Skyrim, are still unsure about the Wii U. Bethesda Vice President of PR and marketing, Pete Hines, said that they like to put their games out on “as many platforms that will support them”. However, when it comes to the Wii U, that apparently still isn’t a platform that will support their games. Speaking in the latest issue of UK tech magazine MCV, Hines said of the Wii U, “So far the Wii hasn’t fitted into that [strategy]. Skyrim Wii UWhether Wii U does down the road is TBD”."

“There’s a decent list of stuff that you don’t associate with us,” Hines told IGN. “We don’t have any games on Facebook. We’re not heavily into mobile. Here and there we’ve done some stuff. We did a little free Dishonored thing. We did the Rage thing, which was John [Carmack] going, ‘hey, I can get this to work on that, it’ll be fun.’ But in general, month over month, year over year, we don’t have stuff that we’re developing or talking about. We don’t have anything announced for Wii U," Hines continued. "We don’t have anything announced for the handhelds. Are there opportunities that could come up there that could make sense and be the kinds of things we would want to do? Absolutely. But what we have going on right now doesn’t fit with that.”

He said all this before and now is basically saying they had no intention no, regardless of tech etc.

Need for Speed: Rivals producer explains why the game isn't hitting Wii U

Coming from a NowGamer interview with executive producer Marcus Nilsson...

"From an EA perspective, we look at different console strategies and different platforms and what makes sense for return of investment, what makes sense from tech development and also what do people want to work on. In this particular case, for Rivals at least, Wii U is not one of the platforms."
