So, Paper Mario: Color Splash comes out later this week and it actually looks pretty cool.  Why not?  I've really enjoyed all of the other Paper Marios. Some people who preordered have already had a chance to play and love it.  I'm thinking of getting it day one, depending on my funds by then.  What about the rest of the VGPress?  Are you interested?  I can't wait for impressions from some of you guys.

I'm interested in getting it but it'll likely be something I pick up a bit later on down the road after I get a few other games that I want first.

If I am moved to get back into gaming it will be one of the first games I will most likely get.  I enjoyed every Paper Mario game I played and totally loved the N64 and NGC ones.  But sadly this won't be the game which will get me back into gaming. Sad

Just picked this up.  It looks gorgeous and is fun, but the hand holding Must Stop!  You really don't have to explain what every single thing is.  Yes, I completely figured out, all on my own, that the block with a 'S' on it is for saving.  Yes, I know I can push up on the directional pad for advice.  I got it the first time you told me.  Thank you for letting me know I can open that gate once I splashed Color on it, but I was hoping to solve that mystery all on my own.  Seriously, don't be afraid to let gamers figure something out on their own.

I dunno, I feel like this needs a lot of explanation:

Super Mario RPG is probably in my top 5 games of all time and I liked the N64 and Gamecube iterations, but at this point it's moved so far from those games Ihave no interest.

I liked Mario RPG, but Paper Mario was better to me.  It was a lot more fun to play.

I'm really enjoying this new one.  I was very apprehensive about the battle system at first.  It seemed cumbersome and tedious to collect cards then paint them.  Now I enjoy it and found ways to quicken the process. The music and visuals are great.  The dialogue is top notch, absolutely hilarious at times.  I do love that the items like the fan were carried over from the DS game.  The game seems pretty lengthy as well.  A great entry in the Paper Mario series.

If your OP had explained what was going on in the image I would've upvoted!

Like to add my nod to this game. Had it since Friday.

I'm just past the Colliseum.

FYI I haven't bought a Mario RPG type game since Super Paper Mario - so its been about 10 years now  unless I'm mistaken. I felt down by Super Paper Mario but Color Splash has redeemed the franchise for me.

I didn't like the first couple of hours but since then its been awesome. Seriously if anyone ever liked the N64 or GC Paper Mario you must get this game it's top notch, don't miss it because of a lack of hype. I don't know what is going on with the few 7/10 reviews I've seen - I guess they only played a few hours because this game is pretty huge.

It's a huge game, I got to the the first big color star and couldn't believe I still had another 5 or something to go. It has a SMB3 style map system, tons and tons and tons of levels. All that talk about it not being an RPG and losing RPG elements is hogwash. You just use cards to pick your moves, otherwise it works the same as any other Paper Mario.

It's very funny, has sparkling dialogue (the 5-stack guy cracked me up) it's easy to play, addictive, has great dialogue and visuals.

Speaking of the visuals, wow, it makes you feel like the old Paper Marios were ahead of their time and the series was waiting for the tech to catch up with it. Seeing this style in HD, is how I felt about Bluray. I didn't care much about realistic live action HD movies, but when I saw how HD gave animation clean lines, that is when I was impressed. Same here, when the camera goes close and everything is still clear and crisp.

The game has a few issues here and there, but no more than any other Paper Mario game.

Don't miss out on this one, I know its coming out late in the lifecycle and you may feel burned out on Paper Mario or Mario RPGs because of all the handheld versions, but do not miss out on this one. It's a gem, this is all Nintendo really had to do to keep me happy, just keep putting out games of this quality.

Last thing, when I say the music is great, I mean the music is GREAT.

Like MARIO GALAXY great. Fully orchestrated music. Remember Moo Moo Meadows from Mario Kart 8? It's like that but with many more tracks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fbYzs8kOzo&list=PLV9ZrDQVqbTW-pNdfC3sKOFTYqr9xeAgF&index=29

The music is of a different type than SMG, more relaxed, breezy and happy, but it is a real standout among game music. There are so many little tricks and melodies, like when you go into the post office and the music changes to a flute version of prism plaza. It's all jazzy and bluesy.

I would love to have this on my phone for everyday living. Hope this same team do the music for Animal Crossing. Grinning

The Roshambo temples are pissing me off.

At first I loved them, but after a couple you have the repitition set in. I find the only way to not have the annoy you is to play them off-screen whilst watching tv.

Some of the hints are messed up. On temple 4 I did what the hints said and won the first two rounds. Failed at the third. Then when I retried the temple the first 2 round rivals acted completely at odds with the earlier hints.

Great impressions and I completely agree.  This game is just as good and fun as the first two.  I don't to enjoy the music as much because I'm usually in the living room playing on low volume while everyone else is around.

Dont you play offscreen with headphones? I often use just one earpiece, lets you still interact with the people around you.
