It's a pretty risky move by Blizzard, and I'm as puzzled as the next dude as to the motives behind their reasoning. If they were looking for better behaved forumers and cleaner boards, stricter moderation policies and a closer monitoring of the boards would do wonders first.
It's no secret the WoW boards are a haven for misanthropy and the worst traits of internet behavior, but that only happens because there is no consequence to that. Going straight to this draconian approach will eventually hurt more the very same people they are allegedly trying to help.
That they'd be treated far better than they would have been if they had not made it clear they were women?

"A Blizzard employee going by the handle Bashiok revealed his real name, Micah Whipple, on the forums in the course of the debate. WoW Riot responded by quickly finding and publishing Whipple's address, phone number, age, the names of his family, his Facebook page and lists of his favourite music and movies, to illustrate the privacy and identity theft issues raised by Blizzard's decision."

Yes, harassed with free stuff and party invites and friendly people rather than aresholes. That's how it goes on MMOs and it isn't any different on WoW, though it might be very different on the forum. I never set foot in that cesspool.

GG.
I think it's stupid, but then I became a facebook member which has my real name. I really hate it. I think I should delete my account but my cousins and aunts/uncles want my pics.

That sounded much weirder than it should have.

On your friends box on the left, there's a pencil icon in the top right. Click that and choose Change Visibility Settings. For See My Friends List, choose Customize, and under Make Visible, choose Only Me.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile
Everyone knows about what Blizzard is trying with Read ID right? Basically asking/ making their users use thier real names in forums and in-game chat, toward the goal of making people play nice.
The concerns for women are obvious. And then there are people who just don't want their real-life world to collide with their online world.
My take? I dig everything about Bitmob.com -- but I don't participate there because they require real names. Am I ashamed of anything? No. I just didn't want my co-workers, bosses, subordinates, ex-girlfriends, friends from grade school or HR department knowing all the intricacies of my interest in gaming and how much time I spend yakking about them.
What do you guys make of it?
