I was seriously surprised by this seemingly new direction. It doesn't look like any RE title, not the old ones, nor the actiony newer ones. I'm not attached to the franchise so either way it will be meh for me, but I still gotta admit it is a ballsy move.
Capcom don't know how to make Resident Evil anymore without the old guys in charge. I don't see how anyone can deny this now.

Played the demo, the intended or what would be the obvious route came off pretty shit. Given how straight forward it is, some decent atmosphere, but there is no genuine build up or suspense to it.
Trying to figure out what the finger is for on a second playthrough. It's pretty unimpressive, and doesn't quite engage with you the way you know proper first person horror games do or even something like P.T.

I guess as a tone piece it works, because if it is the beginning of the game it's a pretty interesting tutorial. First and foremost I think Capcom made an actual adventure game styled horror game with a fucking inventory and everything, and a few of the "puzzles" seem optional or have a their own effects if you don't mess with them? Could be neat.
It seems like it's taking the PT thing, but being a bit more freeing about it. Because PT is pretty specific, and the room will reloop. PT as a result of being very specific is fucking terrifying though.
There isn't a whole lot that happens in the demo, the scare itself isn't really something I'd argue will be memorable, unlike that bitch in PT.

Amnesia is a poor mans amnesia, crap game. PT was better and this is closer to PT.

Right now it's just different from the older RE games without actually being good at any one thing. RE4 being a shift in gameplay led to a fine ass action game. This is like "we know why people like Penumbra, Amnesia, and PT worked for people, but we don't actually understand what works". It's not exactly subtle (yeah I get it, Family Capcom), not that one should ever expect subtlelty from Capcom, there is no real tension, no real build up to anything, it's just blatantly a tech demo. PT had a very specific mood it was trying to convey, and a scare it was building up towards, and it nails that shit.
Been messing with gaf cats trying to figure out a few things, but it all leads to one of their frankly dull endings.
Time to go back and play Silent Hill Shattered Memories 
Played the demo yesterday. I don't know how I feel on this one.
It looks good...but not as good as the PT demo. Feels EXACTLY like PT in terms of controls. There's not enough context in the demo to really understand what they're going for other than "its a horror game again". There is NOTHING "resident evil" at all about it. Its a new game with the RE name slapped onto it. Does the story have anything to do with RE Lore? Any returning characters? Or is this just a PT ripoff in the setting of a 2000 era American horror flick?
It could be a really good game but just like the last few RE games, not what RE fans were hoping for...just on the complete opposite end of the spectrum compared to RE5 & RE6.
You know what though, this actually makes me feel better about the RE2 remake. If they're willing to do this with RE7 and completely go away from the style of the last few games I'm very hopeful that RE2 remake will indeed be a faithful remake to the original. Because they've moved away from the action of RE5 & RE6, and there's no way in hell they would copy this RE7 style for a RE2 remake. So I feel better about RE2 remake being the true and traditional RE experience I've wanted.
You know I don't think that this will be necessarily what REVII will be like. This seems to be just a thematic teaser as opposed to an actual demo, much like P.T.

Yeah that's pretty much what I expect as well, this is just a playable teaser which is different then what an actual demo represents.
I’m trying to gather my thoughts but my mind if clouded by how fucking pissed I am that the demo is not up for us yet. Its nothing like RE, but maybe its time we get something new, just not THAT new. I don’t see any of the RE DNA in there. RE needs weapons, it needs monsters, it needs some form of skill based gaming. If it is just an amnesia or PT like horror game then it will be awful.
RE has always been built on great deep gameplay. The action games are some of the best third person games ever made, can be played tons of ways for better scores and rankings. The old games allowed for incredible speed runs, knife only runs, the mix of action, puzzles and exploration was perfect. These games have depth.
Shit like amnesia has the depth of a puddle. The gameplay is awful, its just there to tell a bad story in a spooky place. Replaying it is a total bore. This game better not be that. I have hope that when we see the actual game it will have shooting, limited ammo, inventory and by more RE than amnesia.
The VR side is making this much easier to swallow, I have a rift, I need VR games and it doesn’t get better than this. Because of that alone I am ok with first person. Normally I would be pissed, I don’t like first person generally.
I’m going to wait a bit before freaking out, I don’t think Capcom would totally abandon the RE roots
