Star Tropics
Wait, so that was you high-fiving me in the back of the head? Give me some notice next time. I would have turned around.
I started Startropics this weekend as well. By starting it, I mean entered a name for my character then saved it because I had errands to do.
I too have heard the calling and picked up the game. Just got into Chapter 3. Also playing it in Wii mode so no save states for me.

Where’s the minus button when you really need it?
I had to look up how to use the special items (like the snowman). Pause then press down on the cross pad. Of course! How obvious.

I've had this cart for the NES forever but never played it. Roboio has long and memorably advocated for a re-boot of the game.
This weekend I started playing it through the Switch's online library offering (albeit with save states -- also BTW available on the NES classic), and I totally get it, and as a result totally get Robio a bit more as well. As I was playing it I had a vitrual high-five with him as I went thought it.
have you played this game?
The impression I had of it after an hours of play was that it was much like the original Doom. It's that good. But structually, also very similar. Level by level you solve platform slues, defeating variosu enemies, resulting in an aend boss. Yeah okay, that describes a lot of games, but this has that same Doom feel.
