Guys check this out, some nice instruction videos of Brawl. It start with the basics, but slowly and surely the more advanced techniques are discussed. This is especially important for the people like Hamster, Bugsy and Steel that suck at Brawl. It seems that we will have an online tournament soon, so this would be a good crash course for them.

The videos are narated by David Sirlin, lead balancer and programmer of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD remix, Street Fighter champion and someone who is involved with running the Evolution Fighting tournament. So he knows a thing or two about fighting games.

The writing is in the videos is in Dutch, but the audio is in english. So I think you guys will be fine. And all the moves are explained with relation to the Gamecube controller.

Part 1/1o (basics and controlling space)

Part 2/10 (normal attacks, tilt attacks, air attacks, special moves and smash attacks)

Part 3/1o (blocking, dodging, rolling and throwing)

Part 4/1o (movement: dashing, jumping, fast falling, short hopping and gliding) We are moving in Beaver teritory here. Steel, Bugsy and Hamster: master the first 3 before trying these.

Part 5/1o (KOs: basic recovery, move decay, directional influence, teching of the wall and spikes)

Part 6/1o (the Edge, offensive and defensive options)

Part 7/1o (super armour and auto-cancels)

Part 8/1o (items)

Part 9/1o We are missing part 9 Sad

Part 10/1o (tournament players in action: Ken vs CPU)

Enjoy, and if you guys have more awesome videos, please share!

Edit: Hairy_Beaver has two interesting links.

The first one is the SmashWiki

A awesome site with so much info you could spend days there.

Maybe you want to figure out the plot of the Subspace Emisary? Or perhaps you want more info about some characters? There is something for everyone.

The second site is the Smash World Forums

The forums you can discuss various tactics or just talk about what character would win if they fought with the powers and abilities from their games. (hint: Samus)

Enjoy!

"We are moving in Beaver territory here." LOL. That could mean several different things. Nyaa

But seriously, don't overestimate me simply because I like to talk Smash. I've never excelled with ledge strategies, I suck at teching (especially with the new Ganondorf, I'm not sure why), and I've never been very good at short-hopped fast-fall moves on standing opponents. I play against the AI 99% of the time (which is paradoxically both very intelligent and very retarded) and I was more skilled in Melee than I am in Brawl. And in fact, if I were to go back to Melee, my skills would show to have degraded noticeably.

All I know is that I can beat a single Level 9 most of the time on flat-ish stages like Final Destination and Battlefield with all items off (although, in the last couple days, I've been turning the Smash Ball on and it's been pretty fun).

Those videos are pretty good! Very good tutorials/explanations, IMO. I'd also like to plug the Smash wiki and Smash World Forums again, since those are so incredibly informative.

And for the inexperienced, video 10 up there is deceptive, IMO. I think it's easier to identify player skill in Melee, which is the game Ken is famous for being the world champion of... not Brawl, though I'm not sure what his standing is in the competitive scene for that game. I know that some pro smashers who flirted with Brawl have even gone back to playing Melee exclusively.

@Hamster

Better start practising, the Iron Lady hates pink

@Yarco

See date, this one was planned eons ago

@Gigi

Yep

@Hairy_Beaver

Well originally the title would be Brawl thread, Beavers welcome Hamsters begone. Or something like that. But Hamster likes the game now, so I had to change it. It is just for comedy! And I put your two links in the opening post.

@GG, Hamster and Beaver

Capture card? What is that? And why would you need it?

A capture card would let a person record Smash matches off a PC monitor, I believe. I was just wondering if those of us who aren't either willing or able to participate just yet might see what we'll be up against.

Oh that would be awesome! Another idea is to start up a Skype conversation during the game and record it! We could do the same thing also with other games!

I think you could do this with just a DVR if I'm not mistaken (though I haven't tried it)

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

They sneak it into everything. It must be a mass hypnosis thing, a conspiracy by the government.
