I could access it, too. Each time I've happened to open this thread I've already been listening to music, so haven't been able to listen to the songs you linked. Nyaa

I've heard Utada Hikaru before, though, and am not a fan.

The song I linked is a pretty extreme remix. Try it out. On that note though last night I listened to the original version of Final Distance and was blown away.

On M-Flo I love the way he produces music, the instrumentals, sampling and female singers, but hate his actual rapping. It's like listening to a decent Sawano soundtrack then the rapping begins.

So there are 2 Anime series which have led me on a musical discovery tour and are loved as much for their soundtracks as the episodes themselves.

Samurai Champloo is one. This is my favourite track, funky jazzy and smooth:

Samurai Champloo - Fly feat. Azuma Riki (Small Circle Of Friends)

I haven't yet had the chance to check out other music by Azuma Riki but I will do in due course. It's produced/mixed by Tsuchie though and I have heard other material from Tsuchie. Good shit.

Just heard this lovely breezy jazzy tune.

m-flo loves 野宮真貴 & CRAZY KEN BAND / Cosmic Night Run

Once again M-flos' rapping ruins part of it. Must investigate this Crazy Ken Band.

I love latin music, bossa nova especially and there are 3 tracks I have heard from Japanese artists who seem to love it too, I'll link more later.

On that subject there is "Soil and Pimp sessions" if you youtube search that, it's hard jazz so unless you like jazz you probably wont like it. Their music is heavily featured on the anime series Michiko and Hatchin.

Didn't mind that last one. The rest aren't for me. When it comes to Asian music, I don't really like the overtly Western-influenced stuff for the most part. It's very much a watered down and awkward experience, as is also the case with Eastern-influenced Western music, for me.

Yes m-flo is very western inspired.

I regard this next track as a great find. Space Dandy led me to a Shukto Mukai mash up which led me to the group he was in: The Zazen Boys. And whilst the Zazen boys are mostly total shit, one of the groups members Yoshida Ichiro has a couple of awesome tracks. You really need to boom this on a great system.

yoshida ichiro untouchable world

This is the other track I love:

Yoshida Ichiro - Pizza Toast

This is the Zazen Boys one good song:

THE MATSURI SESSION - KIMOCHI

Great to see this thread is so popular!!! yes

Here's a anime super charged pop song, from Ravenproses favourite anime, Kill La Kill. From the second opening I think:

GARNiDELiA - Ambiguous

And here is one of the opening themes from my second favourite anime: Fairytail.

It's I Wish by Milky Bunny - her best and only great song.

The next song  is your typical upbeat Anime tune, cute and super happy.

I wish I could work out who the artist is as wikipedia says "Sōzō Diary" (想像ダイアリー, Sōzō Daiarī?, lit. "Imagination Diary") by Toyama as Chitoge Kirisaki, Hanazawa as Kosaki Onodera, Komatsu as Seishirou Tsugumi, and Asumi as Marika Tachibana.

So it sounds like the cast are singing.

AMV~Nisekoi -Souzou Diary video went down, new link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyDk0d8AKSU&nohtml5=False

You'd probably need to see the series to get why this song is good. It's about two girls who may or may not be the girl destined to be with the lead character Raku. And the is each of them wondering if/who/what may happen.

There is a blog here with info about all the other Nisekoi music, there are like 7 different endings and 5 different opening songs for 20 episodes.

Title : Souzou Diary Composition : Watanabe Sho

English Title : Imagination Diary Arrange : Shimizu Teppei

Anime : Nisekoi Lyrics : Watanabe Sho

This is pretty cool

Acoustic version of Come Again

----------------------------------------------------

M-Flo (エムフロウ, Emu Furō;text-decoration:none;">?, stylized as m-flo) is a Japanese hip hop group consisting of producer and DJ Taku Takahashi and emcee Verbal.

Former member Lisa left the group in 2002 to pursue a solo career, and the remaining members then started the M-Flo Loves... project working different vocalists for each song over three albums, including the likes of Bonnie Pink, Koda Kumi and BoA.

Their mainstream success and critical acclaim established them as the most iconic and influential hip-hop production team in Japan with success throughout Asia.

Taku Takahashi and Verbal also started successful side-projects outside of M-Flo, such as the Teriyaki Boyz and Global Astro Alliance collaborating with international producers and artists such as Kanye West and the Beastie Boys.

In 2008 the group announced a hiatus, stating that each member would be focusing on their respective side projects.[3] In 2012 the group ended their hiatus with the release of Square One on March 14, 2012.

The more you know yes. I know Lisa from anime and Taku from Space Dandy.

OK, after GG shamed me I found myself in this thread.  Which reminded me that I started a music recommendation thread here many years ago which wasn't very successful.

A few things to keep in mind.  My music taste is broad but at the same time hyper-specific and it has evolved and changed considerably over the years but there have been some parameters which have remained constant.  With the exception of a few years in the wilderness of adolescense which I wasted listening to grunge and metal, I still enjoy largely the same music I have done since the late 80ies when I first started taking an active interest.

Which for the most parts falls in the genres which came about at different points in time last century mostly by the African diaspora.  Those being (chronologically) jazz, soul, funk, reggae/dub, disco, hiphop, r&b, house and techno.  Over the last 15 years or so I have concentrated on (mostly) house music.  Over the last two years or so I have also been mixing music, mostly just for friends and for fun, but have also had paid gigs.

You should also be aware that having invested as much time and money as I have, it has made me a bit hard to please, even though I do try out recommendations from friends.  Foolz knows a little more about my musical identity because he linked up with me on last.fm though that doesn't really tell the full story or give the full picture.

Having made this disclaimer I will now start listening to GG's as well as all other recommendations and will offer honest opinions.

I listen to the first two.  Not overly impressed.  The first one has a kind of retro beat reminiscent of UK Garage (which seems to be having a mini-revival now) which is kind of cool but the R&B is very generic.

The second one I liked even less.  It includes the section with the guy rapping in the typical gruff japanese put on voice a lot of them do which I am not at all fond of.

I did like the artist you suggested in the GGweekly the other day, I can't remember the name of it, but so far the first two here are not big hits with me.

My two favourite Japanese musicians are both sadly dead.  Susumu Yokota and Nujabes.

Nujabes is dead???! How, when where?

Yes, Verbal is the rapper, whom I dislike. His rapping ruins most tracks. But the producer of M-Flo Taku Takahashi is good.

I will get to the artist I suggested to you in a bit because Izumi Makara comes first and she started the chain.

Space Dandy led me to her music, she's got a soft whisperish quality to her rapping with upbeat and unique hooks behind them.

This is a decent track (Balloon) of hers but honestly I could of chosen 10 or so others, they are nearly all easy on the ear.

So Izumi Makara led me to Daoko.

At first I had to do a double take as it sounded like the same artist, but listening more showed me the distinction. Daoko is more commercial and poppy, mixed with electronica. I can't decide who I prefer more.

Now her most famous song from what I can see actually was used by animators to do an original animated short to the music which is excellent to watch.

Daoko Girl

There is a side A and B, so listen to both.

My current favourite tune, upbeat guitar riffs from Sumika

Sumika "Regret"

Stumbled upon the wrong Sumika searching for the Tiger and Bunny credits song. Happy fumble Happy
