I know, I'm glad that it doesn't go overboard. I think that the realistic tone is apart of it's appeal and a big reason I care for the characters like I do. Without spoiling much, where are you at in the book?

. Almost done with the book.Done with the book 1 and I started to watch the show. The show does a good job following the book but man so much is lost in the translation. You understand the characters so much more when you are in their head, knowing their every feeling. I can watch the show and know what they are thinking but my dad who has not read the book I fear is not getting the same experience. Plus they really failed with the wolves, they are a major part of the childs life after they get them which makes the death of Lady so big. Also having Bran's first word back from the coma be Summer is supposed to be a big moment, that is ignored. Also the relationship between Sansa and Arya is not explored, and you miss out on Sansa's moronic thought process with Joffery. Tyrion is perfect, best casting of the show.
Yeah, the series is best enjoyed after reading the books IMO. Currently past the halfway point of the third book, which has amazed me with its consistency. You guys are in for a treat when you start with it.
