I saw the new Thundercats and it's everything you could hope for.

It's like Thundercats if it was remade by the team that brought you the excellent Avatar the Last Airbender series. The character designs and animation style are all very close. It's cinematic, it actually populates the world with more than 13 characters, there are subplots. Some of the characters are reinvented in terms of their roles, for instance Tigra is Liono's older brother and a bit of a dick. Liono is slimmer and has more of a coming of age thing about him.

They killed off a couple of characters which could have been useful though.

Voice acting is by Andrea Romano, really great voice director after Wally Burr.

The only problem is that the wonderful iconic voice actor who portrayed Panthro and Mumra in the 80s series is no longer with us as he passed away a while back.

Also, although the new character models are good, they aren't a patch on the original roided up models.

EDIT: 3rd episode was shit.

Up to episode 6 of the new Thundercats.

The first two episodes were excellent, since then it's been all downhill. It wants to be sort of like Avatar, wandering the land doing stuff but the mythology and back story isn't there.

It's not tied together well enough and doesn't ramp up the drama. The character differences are beggining to show too.

Panthro isn't a lean, muscular ninja type with a smooth voice. He's not stone cold cool like he was in the original, now he's an over steroided beefcake with a gruff voice. But they also do little things which annoy, like Panthro's nunchuks aren't blue and red like they should be. Cheetara's staff is like a broomstick handle, it looks like crap and she's a young girl here where in the orignal series she was this towering, mature, sexual woman who made the boys look bad.

The book of omens is the size of a paperback.

Tigra is a cockbag mostly, instead of the reassured, trustworthy person you know from the original.

The kids are annoying, mostly because they use actual kids to voice them this time.

Snarf doesn't talk.

Mumra is okay, but the voice actors have a hard time matching some of the originals, whilst other members of the new cast surpass them.

It's all a little hotch potch at the moment and I want it to come together more.

Cool. I love the idea of the Warner Archive stuff, though it's fucking stupid that it's a US only thing.

...Unless Amazon start selling the DVDs themselves as MOD. Like some of the other Warner Archive titles.

Yeah I think I got the Pirates of Dark water from ebay or amazon. People make them availible. For a cost of course.

Did you get Dennu Coil Aussie release? I want that. Or if you manage to track down a complete gummi bears set, I want it.

It's not cheap. I have to add shipping and 20% tax that will get added if I import.

Yeah, anime out here's pretty bloody expensive. Compared to most other series of things, you're looking at a good 20-30 dollars more.

EDIT: Just looked at the price now. Fuck me, that's more expensive than normal.

Schweet.

You know Cartoon Network is owned by Warner Bros who also own DC comics?

They are starting a DC nation segment on the Cartoon Network which only shows programmes based on DC comics stuff. There is a new Batman and Green Lantern CGI series coming and new series of Young Justice which is like the sidekicks of the Justice League.

CGI

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2011/03/23/cartoon-network-announces-dc-nation-programming-for-2012-season/

Television will be getting an extra dose of the DC Universe next year, thanks to Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation.

During today's Cartoon Network upfront presentation, the network announced plans for on-air and online "DC Nation" programming in 2012, described as a mix of "event programming, interstitials, exclusive behind-the-scenes of theatrical production and an insider look into the world of all things DC."

Produced by "ThunderCats" and "Green Lantern: The Animated Series" producers Warner Bros. Animation, the programming will premiere in 2012.

Here's the official synopsis of "DC Nation," as well as the synopsis for "ThunderCats" and "Green Lantern: The Animated Series" (because we know you're as interested in those projects as we are):

DC Nation: A multi-platform, branded block of original programming and exclusive content based on the DC Comics library of legendary character properties, DC Nation is developed in partnership with Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The all-new venture will harness the publishing, theatrical and television assets together for one powerful on-air block on Cartoon Network with exclusive online content.

ThunderCats: The re-imagined animated series based on the beloved 80s classic tells the tale of a hero’s epic journey to fulfill his ultimate destiny. On Third Earth, the kingdom of Thundera is being threatened by the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra and young heir to the throne Lion-O embarks on a great quest to take his rightful place as king. The unlikely champion, joined by his faithful comrades Tygra, Cheetara, Panthro, WilyKit, WilyKat and his loyal pet Snarf, must work together to save their world from darkness.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series: Based upon the DC Comics super hero, the series is an all-new CG animated action series from Warner Bros. As Earth’s Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is used to being in dangerous situations—but he’s never faced anything like this! Set at the farthest reaches of deep space, Hal must face down an invasion from the Red Lantern Corps. Hal is soon joined by an all-new group of heroes on a mission to protect Guardian Space —and the Green Lantern Corps itself!

After looking at the teaser, I'm having doubts about the visual style of the show.  If Green Lantern is any indication, it's gonna look plain, sterile and, plastic-y.  At the very least, I hope the writing is decent.

Maybe it's just me, but I I just miss traditional animating as opposed to CGI.
