Watched some more Avatar, into season 2.

I can see why there are anime derivative complaints now. There is some stuff that maybe people unfamiliar with the genre might think is fuck cool, but which the rest of us have seen before. A lot of Miyazaki ripped designs or spins on old asian legends.

Humour remains fun. Zuko is a c***. There are a lot of episodes which are fun and entertaining but which in story terms do nothing to progress the arc. Arc episodes are few and far between. When there are decent arc episodes its great. Otherwise, a lot of entertaining filler.

Last Airbender Sequel The Legend of Korra Set for 2011

Well, the sequel to the original animated show, anyway, not the M. Night Shyamalan live-action version. The studio is still waiting to see if that movie makes enough money by the time it finishes up its theatrical run to justify a sequel or two.

Meanwhile, Nickelodeon, the cable net that launched the show in the first place, is planning a new series based on the “Airbender” mythology, going under the working title of “The Legend of Korra”, for a 2011 bow as an all-new series.

“Korra” will be produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the same guys who did the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (before it lost the “Avatar” part for the movie version) for three seasons on Nickelodeon, and will follow a teenage girl avatar named Korra, who is described as “hotheaded, independent and ready to take on the world.” The new series will take place 70 years after the events of the first “Avatar”.

In the show, Korra’s quest will eventually leads her to Republic City, “the epicenter of the world of “Avatar.” A metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology, the city is inhabited by people from all nations. Korra finds that Republic City suffers from rampant crime and is also dealing with an anti-bender revolt. Korra is tutored by Aang’s son, Tenzin, is the ways of airbending.”

Look for it in 2011 on Nickelodeon.

"Ah Buffy, good, we are having an apocalypse" LOL

That show was so good, this cartoon seems to capture it well.

That looks cool, apart from the bumblebee woman. Reminds me of the Justice League show. Who's the guy in the red jumpsuit?

spectacular_spider-man_animated_character_designs.jpg

I also saw the first two episodes of the Spectacular Spiderman program produced by Gargoyles head honcho Greg Wiseman. I like the little details he's brought back which I can appreciate having read the early comics. Things like the Enforcers and the Big man, or the way they show half/half Parker/Spiderman's face or the webbing under the arms of the costume.

I don't like the music, or the almost deformed character designs, or new designs for the bad guys which look awful.

Same. I saw a few episodes, and didn't really get into them.

I'm glad I didn't end up buying it. It's tough because I'm on season 5 of the 1994 Spiderman series and that series so perfectly captures the essence and pace of spiderman and the voice actors are so good, the pacing is perfect.
