Last night I popped in my copy of Rune Factory Frontier.  It's been one of my favorite games released this year.  Lots of good solid gameplay, compelling story, good cast, and a well done fantasy setting. My only issue with it is that its too freaking long, which is almost a trademark of the series.  They normally clock into the 60 - 80 hour range, and can go even longer if you choose.

I ended up putting the game away around 45 hours into it.  I just needed to move on and play something new and I never got back to it.  So here we are 7 months later and I'm finally picking it up again... and I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to do.  I don't remember the controls well enough.  I don't know what people's favorite gifts are. I don't know the dungeon layouts anymore.  I'm not sure what's up storywise. I don't even remember what crops I'm growing anymore.

So now I'm faced with a choice.  Do I want to start up fresh or try and struggle and figure out what the hell is what.  With so much stuff in this game I have a feeling that may be fruitless.  Ironic that of all games like this, only Pokemon offers a good refresher of what you last did storywise in the game.

That happened to me recently when I started playing Twilight Princess again after not playing it for nearly two years. I read a strategy guide to bring myself back up to speed, and all was well after a few hours. No idea if that would work with your game, though.

I'm debating doing that, but Rune Factory has a lot of micromanagement, and it's fairly non-linear so I'm afraid while I could get a lot of details down I don't think it would tell me excactly what's up.

Put in another 80 hours! You know you want to.

Play something short and arcadey (or an FPS), that's what I usually do after playing a long game.

Maybe a strategy guide could help you too.

I'm afraid of getting back to Vesperia and Lost Odyssey because of this.

Well I'm just going to start from scratch.  In all fairness it's a fun game. I liked Frontier a lot. It'll be one of my top games of the year.  And now that I have some experience I'll get through the same stuff in less time, so that's a good thing.  So I'm going to go back and forth between this and Boy and His Blob for the next few weeks.
