I thought we had a dedicated thread for movie reviews, but I wasn't able to find it. It may just have been a few more pages back or I might just be blind. Either way we're starting over. So if You've seen a new movie you want to talk about (in particular those that aren't necessarily original productions on Netflix or other streaming services) please feel free to share here.

I dropped my $6 on Google last night to watch the production nightmare, The New Mutants. If you weren't aware, the movie was actually finished over 2 years ago and they kept re-editing and adding more footage to try and turn it into something... well something better than it was.

It's basically a horror movie starring junior X-Men, if you're not familiar with the comic book characters that it's all based on. I wouldn't say it's bad, but I would say it's boring. There's not a lot of action in it so it never really feels like a superhero movie. Likewise they never really commit to the idea that it's a horror movie. There's a few good scenes, but it just never quite gels. But again, I never really found it insultingly bad like some of the recent X-Men movies.

At the end of the day the whole thing feels more like the pilot for a TV show about these characters. So if you haven't paid for it yet, I'd hold off and wait till it comes to the streaming service of your choice.

That's one that I'd prefer to wait until it's free.

I thought we were just using the Netflix thread for this purpose, whether we watched the thing on Netflix or not.

Barnyard and Sausage Party...two of the stupidest things I've ever seen. In a good way. Probably. Particularly the former; the bulls have udders, and this is one of the more mundane design decisions. The latter's orgy scene has dethroned Team America's sex scene, if only because the entire plot of the film is built around it as a secular humanist morality tale.

I also watched Joker recently, which was beautiful. Not sure it was particularly interesting social commentary, though. From that perspective, it reminded me much more of Network than Taxi Driver (which I've seen it compared to), and it doesn't really stand up to its forebear there.* At least not in terms of commentary; as pure cinema it's much better.

*On the other hand, it's better than Taxi Driver in every way, with the exception of Taxi Driver's finale.

I was intending this for recently released movies. The things we might be seeing in the theaters if those were actually open.

All those films are under 20 years old, so for an art form that's been going for over a century, they're brand new. Nyaa And Joker will certainly be showing up in cinemas that don't only play new releases. (As do Network and Taxi Driver.)

I preordered Tenet so I'll give a mini review once I see it.

I saw Tenet last night and really enjoyed it. It's sort of a spiritual successor to Inception and kind of like a James Bond movie with sci-fi elements. The biggest issue I had(besides Nolan's usual sloppy editing) is that it needs a lot of exposition to explain the story. My wife couldn't stand the score and it did sort of feel like Inception's only cranked up higher.

Saw Wonder Woman 84... I don't know why I bothered. I really didn't think the first one was particularly good. This one was not good either. Probably a little worse. This was just a boring movie from start to finish. And while Gal Godot looks perfect, she just doesn't have chemistry with anyone else.

The one real positive thing I can say for it is I was pleasantly surprised with the restraint they showed doing an '80s period peace. I don't know why it is, but it seems very rare that a movie can be set in the 80s without exaggerating everything in it to give off a "totally radical" vibe.

That was one (perhaps the one thing) I appreciated about the first season of Stranger Things. As a result. the first episode of season 2 was enough for me to quit lol. It actually makes me kinda interested in WW84.

Kong versus Godzilla was a Titan sized pile of shit. They were doing a pretty good job building up the shared universe with these two. Skull Island was really good. Godzilla King of Monsters was stupid fun with great fights. This though.... Insulting on every single level. Story, dialogue, and acting are never really important in Godzilla movies, but man they went out of their way to remind everyone of that. And the fight scenes were okay, but honestly a little bit disappointing given that this was a fight build up that was meant to be something special. Anyway, just trash. Wish I never saw it.

Yeah, glad I saw it for free or I would've been pissed.  What do you think of the upcoming Mortal Kombat?

it looks like hot garbage, but that's exactly what the original one was. That didn't take itself seriously at all though so it ended up being a lot of fun. I'm hoping for the same thing in this case. They couldn't even cut the trailer in a way that the acting was halfway decent so you know that's going to be terrible. But if it's good martial arts fighting with some good CGI effects then that's all you going to need.

Okay so, I saw Mortal Kombat. It's bad, but not awful. It didn't quite find that sweet spot of so bad it's good that the original nailed, but it's nowhere near as bad as Annihilation.

They were pretty spot on with the fatalities and gore, and most of the signature moves, but any fight that didn't have Scorpion and/Sub-zero was pretty forgettable. The acting he's pretty awful, though I guess you can't expect much. Shang Tsung is actually a pretty good actor though and did as well as you could with that script. And the story was pretty rough. Oddly enough it actually starts off pretty well though but once they arrive in modern day they just couldn't quite figure it out.

Anyway it's trash but I would still give it a recommendation to any Mortal Kombat fans. Some will say that the fighting are fatalities were the only thing you really needed, but I would have liked a better story. Honestly, I think they made a huge mistake trying to mix the stories of the first two games. For some reason they wanted something more complex than a simple tournament, and that's where it all fell apart. Oh well.

I checked out Last Night in Soho. Overall it's very good. Visually, it's one of the most impressive movies I've watched in years. The colors, the movement, camera angles, and such make it really interesting to watch. The performances are really good as well. Unfortunately the story is kind of a mess and doesn't quite work. Still there's a few twists to keep things moving and that's good enough.

Saw The Batman, was very good.

Me and my friend thought parts of it were a lot like Seven.

The story though was a lot like that Batman Telltale game.

I agree with you GG, it was a great time. It didnt feel like a three hour movie. I do love how they sort of used the Telltale story but altered it just a bit. It's too early for me to say that this is my favorite Batman movie but it's pretty close.

Great imagery. Loved the aerial view of Batman with the flare.
