Can I ask what kind of crazy internet speeds you guys have to download hi-def ful length movies? It takes me an hour and half to get a 150mb file.

An hour and a half to download a 150MB file? Damn dude that's painful. I just downloaded a 60MB file off of Live and it took me less then 1 minute.

I get around 700+ kilobytes per second download speed on my PC. I can download 150MB file in less than 5 minutes depending on the site.

I have a 4MBps connection, which actually is about 1.5-2 ish MBps. It usually takes me about an hour and a half or so to DL full demos off Live.

We have a speed cap on download/upload here of 1 "Mbit" (?), which shows up when downloading as 100 kb/s.
I'll have to test again once I get home, but I don't think it's all that much higher.

For reference, it took me about an hour and a half to download Ubuntu (~700 MB.)

Transfer speeds are measured in bits per second (bps).  File transfer speeds are measured in bytes per second (B/s).  8bps per 1B/s, 1,024 bytes in a kilobyte.  1,048,576 bytes in a megabyte (same with bits in a megabit).  Hence 1Mbps should see top speeds of (1048576/Cool = 131,072B/s = 128KB/s.

I have a 10Mbps connection.  For a 150MB file, it depends on the server speed.  Typically from a decent server I'll average around 300KB/s so around 8 minutes, but that's because of the server.  At full speed it would take about 2 minutes.

An hour and a half for 150MB?  You must be on 256K service then, GG?

NOTE: Downside to the speed is that this is Canada, which means bandwidth caps.  I'm on a 60GB bandwidth cap, meaning I could easily clear it by making a habit of downloading movies.

There is practically no LBP commercials here, the first time I saw one was yesterday on the VGA, all of gaf was shocked that LBP commercials actually exist. Its been out for nearly two months, their handling of LBP marketing is terrible.

So you're saying you haven't seen this, and this, and these? I watch maybe two ours of television a week, and at least one of them comes on every time. While watching UFC Unleashed last Friday, the Murals one was on during every break. I'm sick of them at this point.

That is not a LBP commercial, that is a PS3 commercial not really showing anything. They need to make a LBP commercial, all about LBP, explaining its features, showing what it could do, informing people. Not have people with moving shirts, no one is paying attention to the games cause they are probably thinking about how weird it would be to have moving shirts.

Dont know how this turned into a selling concepts thread. But it's notoriously hard to sell concepts like physics gameplay or UCC in an advert. Part of the reason these epic looking games sell is because they look like movies, they look straightforward in adverts. People know through years of play that they will be in for a similar experience. How do you sell Katamari?

Well Nintendo was very successful in selling their concepts. Things like Wii, DS, Brain Training, Wii sports, Wii Fit, etc.

Maybe LBP is meant to be a niche game, but at least Sony could try to explain the concept. Like you finished the game, make your won level and play on! Or go to the internet to play your friends level.

P.S. this thread has 13 replies in the RoF and 18 replies here. See Vader RoF is clearly anti-PS3! Nyaa

This thread was a kind of experiment for me, I did that on purpose, the exact same post in each board. I wanted to see how it plays out... its basically the same thing. We are far more geeky with the internet connection speeds though. Nyaa

Yeah, back on October 1st, Comcast put a bandwidth cap at 250GB per month on my service.

 Nyaa

Wii Sports is an easy concept: swing and it works. Wii fit is the same, oh it's another weight loss device but it gives you instructrons from the TV. Brain Age? Oh right, cross words and maths puzzle type stuff only I can write with a touch screen instead of buttons. People know the concept from other things and the novelty aspect of it gets the mass media, proper newspapers and TV magazine shows recommending the games.

LBP needs to be able to explain itself and entice people in a 30 second TV ad.

"oh it's a 2-D platformer, only it uses physics? How? And you can create levels? How? That sure looks complicated.. I can get levels online? How do I hook this thang up to the internets? PS3 costs how much? I thought 2-D platformers were dead? It's out now? But Call of Duty is out and I know that game, I've played the other 4. Shooting stuff is always good."

On reflection it takes 45 minutes to an hour for a 150mb file. At the other house with 2mb broadband it's much faster. But still, unless you pay $50 a month for your ISP, over here you aren't getting anywhere near the speeds you would need to download movies. Especially HD ones.

Let me speedtest this thing:

Look at my fucking upload speed! No wonder imageshack works like shit! GASP Well at least I bested Yarcoffin and Steel on the downloads. POS ISP.

No, it's just a wall of commercials that feature it, besides the actual LBP commercial that I assume is the one you saw, which I also see every day (that I watch TV).

Video game commericals don't need some PR rep explaining how the game is played. A video game just having a commercial these days = publicity. "Finish the Fight" doesn't explain Halo 3 at all. Doom 3 didn't do anything, either, unless having Keith David tell you to buy the game works for everyone like it does me. The Gears of War 'mad world' commercial was terrible by your standards. Nonetheless, I couldn't find the commercial I was talking about on YouTube, but I did find multiple UK ads that explain LBP pretty well, actually.
