Ever since Street Fighter II stormed the arcades over 18 years ago and revolutionized the fighting genre as we know it, I became a huge fighting games fan and never looked back ever since!

I remember thinking as a little kid while playing my Gameboy, "Gosh, it'd be so awesome if I can play Street Fighter II on my Gameboy (or handheld)! That way, I can play it where ever I go, by myself or with my friends!" When the GBA came out, this became almost a dream come true with games like Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, and King of Fighters EX2 Howling Blood. But obviously, these were still scaled down and didn't feel like the real thing. Even though they were pretty awesome back in the day, it still left me craving for something more.

Until finally, the PSP came out. Now playing all my favorite fighting games in the palm of hands was now a reality!

This is just a recap of the best fighting games on the PSP. Just thinking about these still amaze me because I never thought I'd see the day that I can experience console/arcade-like experience on a freakin' handheld!

Here they are...with brief nerdy comments by yours truly Nyaa

Tekken Dark Resurrection
Probably the first game that showed what the PSP is all about, not only as a fighting game but as a great game. I still think this is the best fighting game on the system...until Tekken 6 comes in and takes the reigns.

Wow Moment:
"Holy crap! This is just as good as Tekken 5!"

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
We have so many versions of this on almost every modern console, but the PSP version is the best one yet! And it has Ingrid with Yun, Maki, and Eagle!

Wow Moment:
"I can't believe I use to pump in hundreds of quarters for this!"

Darkstalkers Chronicles: The Chaos Tower
Probably the definitive collection of the entire Darkstalker series. It's also refined and it looks great! Never really was a Darkstalker fan but this is still a worthy collection!

Wow moment:
"Only $9.99 at Gamestop!"

Power Stone Collection
This was one of the best games to get for the Dreamcast, and many of us were expressing how much we loved it! It's a great collection for the PSP as well, and it's a testament to how powerful the PSP is, even more so than the Dreamcast!

Wow Moment:
"I love this game!"

Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus
Remember when Guilty Gear was a showcase for higher-res sprites for the PS2 and it made our jaws drop? I can't believe it looks just as impressive as a portable!

Wow Moment:
"It's in widescreen, unlike the PS2 version!"

Samurai Shodown Anthology
When everyone was playing Street Fighter II and to some extent, Fatal Fury, this weapons 2D fighter was also on the rise. And it became one of my favorite series! The only other 2D weapons fighter game I prefer over this series is the Last Blade, but since that's not on the PSP (at least not in the states), this will do. It's Samurai Shodown I-VI  all on one disc! How awesome is that!

Wow Moment:
"I can't believe I paid $70 for the Samurai Shodown VI import!"

SoulCalibur Broken Destiny
Honestly, I still can't believe how amazing this game looks! We came a long way to finally be able to play something like this on a handheld. Still impressed by it! Seriously, it's just as good as SoulCalibur IV and better than the past console versions!

Wow Moment:
"KRAAAAAAAAATOS!!!!!!" And, "Is this really on the PSP!?"

Fate/Unlimited Codes
Even though it's download only, it's still good as a full retail game. That's another thing that's come a long way, which is downloadable games. Other than the price and some headaches, I think this game shows that the PSP Go will be pretty cool. But still, I'd love to have the UMD for this. Regardless, it's a good fighting game for fighting game junkies (like myself!)

Wow Moment:
"This series used to be what now?!"  (Honestly, didn't know)

Tekken 6
The PSP started to shine with Tekken DR, so what a great way to end this blog with Tekken 6. Yes, I know the console version will be better, obviously. But I want this as well. Can't get enough if you ask me!

Wow Moment:
"This is coming out for the PSP!?"

Conclusion:
I'm sure there were a few more I left out, and for good reason too *cough* Dragonball Evolution * cough*. But it's hard to believe that this is only the beginning. I can't wait to see what developers come up with next! A portable Virtua Fighter? BlazBlue? Street Fighter IV port? Could happen. And if it does, than I'll be the first in line to get them!

Also, yeah I know nothing beats two joysticks and a few friends duking it out in the livingroom in front of a huge flatscreen with drinks and snacks everywhere. But you can't take all that with you. And if you're like myself who loves handhelds and fighting games, there's no better feeling than sitting on a long car trip or a flight while playing these on the go!

This is why I love portable games and it's things like this that makes handhelds so rewarding.

Yeah, the PSP is clearly the place to be when it comes to portable fighting games. A Virtua Fighter and SFIV on PSP would make a lot of sense.

I'm actually surprised Capcom hasn't released some version of Street Fighter on DS. I mean, they released several on GBA, which has fewer buttons and far less power than the DS. You'd think it would be a no-brainer.  I'm also surpised Nintendo hasn't done the same with Smash Bros.

Raven, they kinda did. It's called Jump Ultimate Stars.

I can only really relate to Tekken 5. Man that was an impressive feat by Namco. I cannot wait to see what they do with Tekken 6.

Soul Calibur may be the first fighter I get for the PSP (If Guilty Gear Judgement doesn't count).

Even being a Soul Calibur freak though I not sold on getting it yet though as I am concerned about busting the nub.

Fighters would have to be the harshest on the nub right?

Some great fighting games there. Honetly when I saw the pics for the Soul Calibur PSP game I thought they were terrible and extremely earlier shots of a PS3/360 SC. >_>
