Okay I decided to make a video thread where we can discuss movies we have seen, awesome TV series we are watching or an anime we look forward to. Please watch out for spoilers, some countries are behind with some series and movies.

So lets get started with two movies I have seen recently

Public Enemies

I saw this movie in Nice, France.

Holy crap Don Frye is in it. And he shoots Johnny Depp's friend and Depp himself. No one messes with Don Frye. Plenty of close up of his awesome stache too.

score 10/5

Inglourious Bastards

The beginning of this movie is so awesome and tense. When Hans Lada talks to Perrier LaPadite. So awesome acting. After that the excitement drops of a bit, only to return in full force at the end. The characters are all awesome, one of my favorite is the German sociopath Stiglitz  Brad Pitt is funny, especially when he tries to talk Italian. Oh my god that was horrible LOL. The star of the show was Christoph Waltz as Hans "the Jew Hunter" Lada. The guy speaks 4 languages fluently and is just awesome. That guy deserves an Oscar. One of the best movies released in years.

score 5/5

OK now a TV series in am currently watching

Fringe

It is kind of like X-files. You have these weird mysteries that need to be solved, which are part of a greater plan, named the "Pattern". The main actress is kinda bad, but the crazy scientist and his son are awesome. In Holland the series has just begun, but the first 3 episodes were good and the series has potential.

Wolverine and the X-men

This cartoon series is a worthy successor of the X-Men animated series. The story is that Jean Gray and Xavier are mysteriously attacked by a physic force that causes them to disappear and the mansion to blow up. Shortly afterwards, the X-men are disbanded. Magneto is given Genosha Island, and he made a sanctuary there for all mutants, but humans back on the mainland are discriminated against and are forced to be registrated by the government. There is also a Cold War between Genosha and the States. Wolverine decides to bring the X-men together to combat this tension. I could go on for a bit, but that will spoiler the most awesome thing about the series. Just know that you should watch it.

You can download the series here, if you can't be bothered to watch it on TV.

Okay guys your turn

I have started to record that new X-men series but I only got it from episode 2 onwards. I have 3 episodes backed up to watch.

I've finished watching Fringe series 1 as has mostly everyone in the rest of the world Nyaa Spoiler: The main woman is an alien.

I'm going to keep all classic cartoon discussion in the classic cartoon thread. And as I said Iga, EXO squad is out on DVD! Spiderman 1994 series is out on dvd and a complete boxset of King Arthur and the Knights of justice is out in March 2010. Happy

i recently watched a low-budget Macedonian film called Mirage about a gifted boy from a crazy messed up family getting bullied at school and having all his hopes crushed.  i'm not really doing it justice as my description sounds cheesy but the film is not.  it's a fantastic film

Lucky you, the people that were broadcasting Fringe down here decided that after the fifth episode, no-one was watching it, and hence, stopped airing it. Shame too, I didn't mind the show.

I've been watching the Wire - the first series anyway. Good stuff.

was planet earth the one they changed david attenborough's commentary for sigourney weaver in the north american release?  could never understand why.  maybe they feared american audiences would be put off by his accent or voice.  it is a fantastic documentary, one of my favourites

That's a shame, it got a lot better. It's a cheesier more Hollywood-ised take on the X-Files with technology at its core. Rent it on dvd if you can.

Yeah, when aired on The Discovery Channel in the US, the narration was changed.  But I have the BBC release complete with Attenborough goodness.

Currently watching the second season of Battlestar Galactica. It's SO much better than the first season, but still not as great as it's meant to be.

the first season was complete crap, though. This season has actually been enjoyable so far.

I've been watching this animated movie known as Mouse Police.

It's the worst fucking thing I've ever seen in my life.

Don't believe me? Watch it here.

Hmmm, Fringe is getting really interesting. A bald Watcher like character and a boyfriend returns from the dead. Too bad the main actor can not act to save her life.

Yeah, I am definitely watching this one. Do not spoil it, please.

Well, it turns out that the bald watcher tpe character boyfriend actually has hair, but is wearing a reverse wig, which is made out of the skin of the infected people (where do you think their skin goes) and so he accidentally releases the virus again.

She's sexy and she gets into water tanks in bras. The series gets better as it goes on.

Okay I watched Pirate's of the Caribbean:  At World's End.

And Ninja was right, Kira Knightley is a slightly more manly version of Orlando Bloom. LOL

Man what a clusterfuck of a movie.

The review Ninja did a few years ago is fucking accurate

^

I've always wondered why people use 'made up as you go along' as a criticism considering that is seriously how a hell of a lot of highly respected writers actually approach their work. Nyaa

I am up to date with the Naruto anime. The fillers are finally over and the real episodes have started. The pacing has also picked up and I can't wait to see the awesome fights coming up. But the animation in Naruto is highly inconsistent to say the least. Some fights are animated nicely, but the quality often sucks.

Here are some examples:

Someone has a chromosome too many

Where the hell is his head?

How the hell is this possible?

Last night i watched "there will be blood".  Firstly let me say i have not been a fan of paul thomas anderson.  while boogie nights had its moments, and it was an altogether interesting premise, magnolia left me bored to death (and extremely angry to have wasted three and a half hours of my life and money on the dvd).  it was way way overlong and self-obsessed.  so why  you ask would i want to watch "there will be blood", which incidentally comes pretty close to the 3 hour mark?  for one thing, i think daniel day-lewis is a charismatic actor and very interesting to watch (though even he couldn't save the abysmal "gangs of new york") but the real reason is in my latest post in the music recommendation thread.  i found out "there will be blood" uses a piece by arvo pärt, my favourite contemporary classical composer.  as it happened the piece is used to very good effect at a very pivotal point in the film and it was worth watching for that alone.

luckily, there will be blood is much better than magnolia.  it takes place on the turn of the century (not the most recent one) during the huge surge for oil in the US.  daniel day-lewis is typically excellent as a ruthless and unscrupulous, self-made and independent (to a large extend) oil tycoon.  without family, without a past, without a dream (other than to drill oil and make money) and pretty well devoid of any feeling except a deep-founded and relentless hatred for everyone (think yoda and then some).  i won't give much of the story away in case any of you will want to watch it i will just say that it's good for the most part and it moves along at a decent pace (infinitely better than magnolia).

it is very similar to magnolia in that the vast majority of the characters, and especially the two main ones (oil-tycoon and false prophet in TWBB and the two patriarchs in M) are fundamentally loathsome and you will actively wish to see them dead.  you will see them go through trials and tribulations and feel no empathy or even sympathy what so ever.  with some minor exceptions everyone you meet in TWBB is either evil or stupid (or both).  i would rate it *** (out of five)

also i couldn't help but compare it to "no country for old men" because of the very similar landscapes and the portrayal of a really sinister character.  but this is no NCFOM, that movie is perfect.  but then again paul thomas anderson is no ethan & joel coen
