Yep, I've read the first collected volume of the original and really liked it, but it was definitely propaganda. It's very difficult not to make propaganda during a major war, or any time of political instability, for that matter.
For instance, one of the major themes in the marvel films I've seen is the incompetency of the UN, and how it results in more bad than good; it'd be better if the super heroes (superpowers) of the world, were freed up to run things themselves. This is of huge significance, because even though the UN is basically just a sex trafficking and drug dealing front in practice, its power as a symbol was that of preventing another world war through cooperation. Agitating for the removal of such a symbol, without acknowledging what the symbol stands for even if it's a bit of a joke in practice, is highly disturbing.
Modernising them would make such sentiments easier to exploit, but makes me a little less interested. One of the things I enjoyed most was the very kitschy feel of the original, which wouldn't work so well if the characters weren't spiffy mid-century balls to the wall caricatures and stereotypes. I don't think you could do Chop Chop today as he was, and he was my favourite character. 
That said, if Spielberg does do it, hopefully he comes up with something else just as fun. (Having not read any of the new ones, everything will be a surprise at least!)
Again, just to be clear, I really liked what I read of the original!

I only know about them from Justice League.

Spielberg's (relatively) recent comic book film (Tintin) was a tremendous disappointment.

Well at least this shows ambition on the part of Spielberg then, to go above and beyond what is deemed acceptable in contemporary cinema. A job done slightly above par.

I bought it, haven't seen it yet. Seemed to get rave reviews from everyone and was a huge hit in Japan.

It was originally suppose to just be the 3rd season finale but Starz canceled it.
They had a cliffhanger at the end that I hope they release a movie because that cliffhanger left me wanting more.

Nope.
Despite all that, this really was a fun movie. It's not really a movie you would want to come into new. This is the payoff of the last 10 years of setup. Aside from Thanos, there really isn't any interesting character development or anything like that. This is just pure comic book action porn. It's just cannon fire of fight scene, joke, fight scene, joke, fight scene, joke, fight scene.

I know there's a few gripes, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has very slowly been creeping further away from the comics and creating its own lore. There's nothing wrong with that. The stories have still been very good. Once you accept that and stop expecting stories pulled directly from the comic books, there's nothing holding you back from enjoying the movies.
As it is, I don't think The Infinity Gauntlet wouldn't really have worked as a movie. Getting audiences to accept that Thanos is killing half the universe in order to impress the embodiment of Death. The Abstracts would be difficult to conceptualize on film as well. They had to pull back from the scale of the original material and trust me, it's better for it.

If it was DC, they would have done a faithful animated movie.
About 5 years ago. That would have been acceptable. Silver Surfer and Warlock would have been in it.
I'm sure I'll enjoy Infinity War, but it will still bug me.
