I don't feel like repeating what was said in the podcast, so not much detail here yet (I also need to go to bed), but impressions of stuff outside of the podcast will follow in later posts. Probably.

In the meantime, here's some random things:

The OnShape demo really drives home that this is by far the best way to play Audiosurf-style rhythm games. Gamified "dancing" and shit flying at your face is a perfect combination.

Virtual Desktop works fantastically with compatible games, too. I'm shocked by how good it is on 5ghz wi-fi. There's no way I'll play anything other than sims "tethered".

The only thing that gives me bad motion sickness is traditional first person movement (I get a tiny bit in Dirt Rally, but it's managable; though i've been mainly still playing it on a monitor tbh), so I've only been playing stuff like that in small installments. i've found that leaning forwards as if i'm sliding across polished floorboards in socks helps a lot, as that's what it appears I'm doing in-game lol.

Superhot VR is as amazing as Superhot non-VR, yet completely different.

As a new owner of a VR headset I would like to add that it is of utmost importance to fully communicate your intent of buying a VR kit to the people you live with.  My wife was under the impression that I would only be using it in work related scenario's and I can now feel her piercing, condemning gaze burning into my flesh whenever I use it, which severly impacts the enjoyment I've been able to gain from my purchase.

We discussed this on the podcast. When watching VR porn stream it to the nearest screen as a courtesy to avoid confusion. Your wife probably wanted to enjoy watching you play some VR games, but is understandably weirded out that you appear to be playing a skiing game, yet you're fully erect.

Superhot is one of those wow I get it moments for VR. So are you doing just the Quest helmet or connecting it to a powerful PC to access all games?

Beat Saber is a must play in VR, one of the best rhythm games around. I don't know if Robo Recall is still free but it's a blast to play, I like it more than stuff like Raw Data. If budget cuts still has a demo try it out. And of course if your PC can run it, HL Alyx!

I can definitely run Alyx, but I've been distracted from getting more into PCVR by Space Channel 5 and Dance Central. The latter of which puts Superhot's (and the sports demos I've tried) throwing mechanics to shame. The menu is your mobile phone, which you can throw at people, or up in the air, and it is perfectly natural and nicely simulates the velocity of your throw, as well as angle and even spin. It's also really easy to catch if you throw it up in the air above you. If a game that has throwing as a silly side mechanic can do it so well, what the fuck is going on with Superhot et all?
