I cleared the entire area of White Orchid, which was huge itself. But next I cchose to go to Velen, & this area looks like its probably TWICE the size of White Orchid!

The map in Witcher 3 is split up into 4 or 5 giant areas. So this is the 2nd map for me. Looks like it'll take a while to explore the whole thing.

I moved on without clearing a side mission and failed it. Sad. I can't even get it back.

I hated that.

After a contract I walked away only to find TWO FUCKING BEARS eager to dry hump me.

Know what this game needs? A button for HUD-less screenshots.

I went to attack a bear and was dodging him, stab, then dodge.  I was doing very well then the second bear showed up.

I'll need to start a Facebook account soon to show off some screens.  I had one for Minecraft but can't even remember the name for it.

I know it's coming, but I need that large text patch sooner rather than later.

Without a minute of gameplay even completed, The Witcher is my most hated game series ever.

I tried playing the original Witcher.  I really did.  But the manual in Canada was printed without access keys.  So you go to install and you can't.

I got a free voucher for The Witcher 3 with my videocard, and with it being the hot new thing I installed it and gave it a whirl.  Or at least, I tried.  This one got past the install, but it causes the entire PC to crash after the first cutscene every time on every setting.

I had that problem with STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.

Also for the Witcher I had to create a shortcut and write something like "don't force min requirements."

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:

  • SMB Mix-Up! (1AB2-0000-0047-5A7D)

I played a good 5 hours yesterday, first time outside the prologue. Lots of impressions coming.

The story is giving me huge GoT vibes so I am enjoying it. Some good acting and writing on display: I found the meeting with the king to be interesting. The Yennifer relationship seems ripe for drama.

The game world is massive and beautiful. I still have not hit any major cities, I have stuck to roaming the country doing some side quests. The main map is more spaced out and not such a marker fest like white orchid. I felt like my exploration lead to missions and not me following points on a map, so that was good. I feel like the open world structure makes a world of difference in making me feel a part of a massive quest and not some weird semi linear action RPG like witcher 2.

The combat is a big improvement. There was a moment where I found a group of like 10 drowners and I systematically wiped them out with nearly a scratch. It was a perect mix of magic, bombs and sword play, it all clicked well. Crowd battles are awesome. Small number battles are kind of simple and boring. I fought a werewolf and it was way to boring a fight, you find a magic and attack combo that works and simply repeat the same moves over and over. I really hope this game has major bosses like the giant squid in witcher 2.

The loot is way too excessive, it's the worst kind of loot where it's just junk everywhere and you don't really know when you may need that junk so you horde it. Equipment is handled fine but the crafting and alchemy is so over board. I know some of you will say this is like Skyrim, yes Skyrim is king of collectable junk BUT the act of grabbing the loot can be an adventure in itself. When I am in town and I want to rob a merchant or a home I need to sneak or figure out a way to gain the loot. That can turn into some of the best dynamic gameplay moments in Skyrim. There is nothing like that in witcher, everything is for the taking outside a military base. I have walked into tons of homes and clicked x on everything robbing a poor family with absolutely no reaction from the game. It's iust random wasteful loot.

One other thing that bugs me is the way quests are handled. If you explore you may enter a quest randomly and ruin the natural progress of the quest. and I am not speaking about finding items needed for a quest so when someone asks for them you can quickly turn them in, I mean actually skipping story elements of the quest. I discovered a random cave so I explored and I noticed red marks in my sense. So I click on it and Gerald is like "there is a body somewhere" all of a sudden a quest is added to my log. The description is of a witcher contract for level 35 and it tells me I got the contract from some soldier looking for his lost family members or something. I never saw this guy, I never grabbed a contract, the quest skipped all those steps cause I so happened to explore. This happened in white orchard too, I missed out on two entire characters and gameplay moments. I feel that is punishing me for exploring, I am paranoid that i am jumping into the middle of some quest I have yet to start.

But I am hooked it's a very engaging game. Oh the card game is great, I hope the game has a lot more mini game diversions like that, that's the point of open world games. Can't wait to play more later.

Oh yeah I forgot about Stalker.....I had to do some weird ass trick I read about on a forum, where you have to remove a win32 file and place it in a certain folder to run the game. LMAO....ridiculous.
