X360 was solid but RROD sucked.
I skipped the Don Mattrick "One" era. MS never really recovered from that.
I kinda wish I didn't buy the Series S, though. It collects a lot of dust, but at least I can play Banjo Nuts & Bolts and Kameo.
Other than the original Xbox, I think MS has the most confusing console naming scheme in history, but at least they didn't slap "New" and "XL" on everything for over a decade, lol
The original Xbox, but for its failing Thompson drives, was a sublime experience and took what Dreamcast started with online and brought it beyond the near future (for console gaming and online matchmaking, etc...).
The 360 built on that and really showed up Sony, embarrassing them for years with their inability to understand the importance of online play.
Since then, their consoles have been missing, and opportunities have been dropped. It does t matter how good of a piece of hardware the Xbox "X Series" is, and I believe they are impressive; they are not going to get back to where they are. The Japanese toy and electronics companies won, and the software companies from the US continued to push their strength- software.
Their consoles changed the direction of history, but not to their benefit. I think their new direction fits them better, and I earnestly hope they succeed, if not just because they own a lot of studios and IP that would go by the wayside.
I'm not sure where Sony will end up as a console manufacturer over the next 10 years. I'm sure by inertia, there will be a Playstation 6.
The 360 was the best generation with the best lineup of games. I really got into online gaming with Gears 3 and GTA 4 online. Good times.

Over 24 years of Xbox and you've never played one? Wow! My curiosity would've gotten the better of me.
I think the hardware was the problem for me. I had the Core version with wired controller and tiny ass memory cards.
It had the RROD. And it was just so loud, it was incredibly distracting and annoying to hear this noisy fan trying to play.
I have great memories of the OG Xbox playing Halo, Dead or Alive 3, Splinter Cell.
I think Halo and Splinter Cell I had the most games for. I appreciated playing Half Life 2 on it, even if the experience was incomplete.

I'm like that with Sony.
I almost bought a ps4 last year before some asshole threw a rock at my car, I had to pay for the damage and my insurance went up. I'd be drowning in cheap used ps4 games by now.
After seeing him solder bits of metal on it, I hardly used it. I was afraid the damned thing would catch fire.

Sounds like my sister after I gave her my PS4 Pro. So many cheap Lego games. She's more than happy staying a generation behind for the cost savings.

I never modded mine but lots of people did back then.
This is the first gen that I've gone without Sony. I figured since I skipped Xbox last gen that it would be more worthwhile to go with them. Its paid off with Game Pass.

Oh, man. I'd completely forgotten about that model of 360. I couldn't wrap my head around a next Gen Xbox with an optional HDD.

Ps4 games go so cheap. Nintendo games never drop FFS.

I miss Nintendo's budget priced "Players Choice" re-releases on GameCube. Nintendo was a lot more price friendly when they weren't so successful. Increased success = increased greed.
Xbox Series X is my favourite Xbox system. I have a library of well over 500 games that I can play on it thanks to backwards compatibility plus most can be played at a better performance. Game Pass has also been of great value for me.

Amen to that. First Party WiiU games typically launched at €40.

If Switch2 doesnt get MonHun Wilds I'll be looking at Xbox Series. I'd preferably hobo it an get an S. I've never been bothered a lot by resolution or framerate, and I probably won't play that many games on it anyway. I've hardly played anything on my Xbone X to be honnest. I've bought about a dozen games for it and the only one I think I played was Catherine, an X360 game.

It's also gamers and retailers fault. When you buy directly from a seller they list these games for high prices. And even used game shops have the prices eye wateringly high compared to PlayStation and Xbox games.

Sounds pretty awesome.
It's such a huge change, I was wondering how you felt about all this? And if you have any Xbox specific memories to recount to us.
I feel a bit sad about them, well I'm not sure how to characterise it, not throwing in the towel but jumping out of the ring.
They are already the world's largest games publisher according to figures from the end of last year. Now their games are going to other platforms which is going to benefit Sony and Nintendo only hobos like me.
I'm looking forward to more, bigger games to add to the Indies I enjoy.
My memories of the Xbox, well I won a competition to win the first one. That was surreal, then I sold it to a couple of finance brokers.
I got a 360, the RROD was "fun".
I used to play with my brother in my baby nephew's bedroom while he was in his crib. Maybe that's why he likes RE5.
I couldn't play GTAV as my HDD was broken. I bought an Xbox 360 slim a year or so ago and picked up so many games I need to play.
