From my exp with women and games... there is no difference in the genders. Some women like gaming, just as some dudes like gaming and the people who don;t ike gaming lacked exposure to it when they were young.

I know just as many men as women who don't game at all and both groups are equally dismissive.

Of course, and my strategy fails for this reason. Leo was mocked by someone playing the same videogame as him, but on a mobile phone.

I bought Time magazine at Dulles (because it had Stephen Colbert on the cover and I wanted to read about his "Tonight..." show).  There was a very interesting article inside which made me think of this very thread as I was reading it.

It was about Marvel's new editor in-chief and some brave decisions he has made in diversifying their "Universe" of superheroes (Female Thor, Ms America, Ms Marvel and several others ... not just female but diverse in other ways too).  Apparently as a result sales went up significantly.  The gaming industry has always been like a sort of younger sibling (maybe a bastard step-child) to the comic industry so it may just be a matter of time before it matures in a similar fashion so as to become more inclusive.
