I just tried to watch The Cable Guy again.  Jim Carey.  How did he get away with it for so long?

EDIT: Also Carly Fiorina, Lee Iacocca and countless politicians and CEO's.

Back then I thought "The Cable Guy" was a very surprisingly decent film in an otherwise shameless barage of shit with all the Ace Venturas, Liar liar, The Mask and what have you.  In fact I have cause to think he is a talented actor, he just sold himself very cheaply to begin with and then it was too late to get taken seriously.

By the way I love the subject of this thread.  My nomination is ... Alanis Morisette!! I mean, I know it didn't last that long, but at one point she had the whole world fooled.

Cable Guy was shite, Ace Ventura was ace.

Mark Walberg, he just looks angry or confused in every damn movie. He is not a good actor.

No.  It's really not shite.  People just went in expecting stupid slapstick comedy and funny faces ala Ace Ventura.  The cable guy is not even a comedy.  It's a great movie.  You just need to meet someone like that to really know what it's like Nyaa

I missed half the references in cable Guy because I didn't know the shows he was doing his thing about.

I really liked the Cable Guy movie. It was more a disturbing reflection of society at the time then it was a slapstick comedy.

Precisely.  Which is exactly what it wanted to be.  So it's a good movie.

Surely his rap career is more worthy of suspicion than his acting career. I suppose he's a more succesful actor, though, but at least he's been in good films.

P.S.

The Cable Guy is brilliant.

Jim Carrey? That is the first post? The dude is a legend, no one made me laugh more during my childhood than that man. Plus he is a great actor, he was amazing in Truman Show.

Adam Sandler. Everyone of his new movies annoys me more than the last and still somehow, for some fucking reason someone drags me to them and I end up seeing them all and they have all been horribad.

I like Sandler he has made a couple of gems, the Wedding Singer and Waterboy were pretty good. Zohan was hilarious shit, absolutely hilarious.

But yeah he has done a lot of shite.

You guys need to step it up.  You should be in this thread as forum posters for the fail here.  Jim Carey is an excellent actor; just because he was in some crappy movies doesn't make success a shocker.  And Alanis Morissette really?  If you were going to choose singers or bands, how about frickin Black Eyed Peas?  And Robin Williams has some terrific roles - Aladdin?  Mrs. Doubtfire?  Step it up people!

Baffling success?  George W Bush, and by extension, the modern US Republican party.  They've become a parody of themselves and still manage to maintain the support of half the country.

An alternate take, Brian McCabe (hockey player).  He's a defensive nightmare, and is a defenseman.  Nobody seems to pick up on this.
