I've decided to start a regular writing exercise where I generate an adjective-noun pair then write an opening page or half page for the resulting concept.

I have posted my first one that I did the other day, but will keep it on a separate blog so as to not spam the blog listings.  You can read them at MyPerspicacity.

Your writing is very rhythmic, each sentence somehow manages to be about the same length. Was this intentional? It's kind of addictive to keep reading.

I agree with you GG.  I've always wish I could be a better writer.

That was really well done. Obviously I am a terrible writer, I basically write out my thoughts as it streams from my head.

I loved the way you described the fighter. I have just read Gatsby and while I am not saying you are Fitzgerald level it is that same style of descriptive writing.

Not at all intentional, I had to go back and read it again with this in mind.  More full stops were intentional, as I have a tendency to overuse hyphens and semi-colons.  Maybe the rhythm comes from a penchant for poetry Nyaa

You are a very good writer, Yoda. Now go back and finish both of those stories, please. Happy

^I read the fighter one. Wasn't it completed? It read like a very short story/flash fiction to me, not the beginning to something longer. Nice work, Yoda.

These are intended to be enclosed stories, actually my original intent was basically what an opening page would look like for a novel of that title.  Thank everyone for kind words.  Keep up if you're interested, I hope to do one a day.

Yeah, it seemed like they were the begining of a longer story. I'm not all that familiar with flash fiction, as the shortest short stories I've read were at least ten pages. I'll definitely keep reading, Yoda.

For the sake of variety, maybe try to extend your sentences, using commas, semi-colons etc.
