Is there a shotgun equivalent? Or proximity mines?

I've had quite a few instances where I would spring jump from respawn into insta-death, usually by an octostrike. There are some Japanese who are way too good with the sniper rifle. Basically I was the only non-Japan guy in the game.

My team was also a bit lame, they need to push forward instead we got on the backfoot, erasing damage.

It's usually a bad idea to jump towards a point where there's a skirmish going on as there's a big fat marker where you'll land for everyone to see.  Nothing more easy than just waiting around, shooting ink and sending your foe back to the spawnpoint the moment they touch ground.

There isn't really anything that immitates a shotgun that I'm aware of.  Since the range of most guns is limited, about anything is a shotgun really.  There is one gun that shoots a blob of ink that explodes after a short while, but I find it really hard to work with.  If your 'bullet' hits anything before exploding, it just doesn't go off at all, or so I think.

Haven't seen any proximity mines either, but there are homing missiles that travel over the ground.  Annoying little things.

And inkstrike isn't all that.  Basically most of the special weapons are easily evaded as they always let you know where they'll hit a few seconds before they actually start doing damage.  Inkstrike, Whail,...  I think only the Kraken is harder to avoid, because it's basically player controlled.

SPLATOON - INKBRUSH WEAPON CONFIRMED FOR RELEASE   TOMORROW

oOoooh, I wonder what it's sub and special will be.  Nyaa  Anyhow, seeing of some of the rollers have an insane range when throwing ink, I don't see it changing things up much.

I suspected as much but I wasn't 100% on if they could see where you would land. Also you usually drop right into enemy coloured territory and cannot move. I've started dropping back behind the frontlines now.

I didn't think the opposing team can see where you are going to land, just your team. As far as landing in opposing team's ink, I just shoot ink at the ground right before I land. Works well most of the time.

Hmmmm, I'm getting caught and killed a lot because people shoot at my feet and I can't back up. I go into squid form and get stuck. Still had a good run.

This seems like the perfect game to play to help take a break from The Witcher 3.

Games is a lot of fun, I could play the multiplayer for months, don't worry about content guys, they've already updated it with new weapons and a map.

Not for me.  I even don't mind that there are only 2 maps available at any one time.  Unless one of those 2 is Macrel Port.

This game is pure gameplay bliss.  I don't think that voicechat or being able to play with friends in one squad would add all that much either.  Thanks to the realtime map displayed on the gamepad, it's always very clear what area's need your direct attention, without the need for direct communication with your teammates.  Unless they're complete dimwits of course, in which case verbose communication probably wouldn't be able to save the day anyway.  As for being able to team up with friends, that's all fine and dandy, but strategy can't match the misschieveous competitiveness of games like Smash Bros or Mario Kart.  For some reason I get the same vibe from playing Splatoon online as I do from playing Mario Kart 8 online.  It's just vibrant, uncompromised, FUN.

Not in the least. Has me grinning most of the time. It's an absolute blast in multiplayer. The rotating 2 stages per hour is weird though.

Splatoon is one of the very few games wherei the Upad screen is a tremendous asset in gameplay instead of just a novelty.

I don't want voice chat or squads so that I can do better in the game, but because I want to play with and talk to friends. Sure it's fun playing against friends, but it's also fun playing with them, and a very different experience.

Yeah having voice chat isn't always just for talking strategy, sometimes you just want to shoot the shit while playing the game.

Maybe my view on voicechat is a bit skewed.  I only know a few people who game and are in the same timezone, or close by enough for me to actually be able to play with them now and then.  I also don't have a history of gaming online with friends.  I guess you could make a point out of it if you just want to 'hang out' together while gaming yeah...

I'm also ok with the game deciding if I'm on the same team as people i know or am playing against them.  I guess that being on the same team would benefit from voice chat as you could try to cooperate, but honestly, it's much more fun inking them than inking together.  I hope that Nintendo also patch in an option to play together, but consistently on opposing teams.

Okay, I unlocked the shotgun Grinning and a super long range machine gun. And the clothing upgrades are awesome, stuff like being able to hide your landing position or being completely invisible when squidding about. Grinning
