Evolution of Dual ScreenThe Nintendo DS was among many two-display systems in the company's history. Here's a look at the early days.ign.com Iga_Bobovic
A portion of an MTV interview with id’s John Carmack… MTV Multiplayer: You’ve said in the past that you don’t think id titles will be on the Wii. Is that still the case?
Carmack: Interestingly, I actually spend far more time playing Wii with my four year-old boy than I do with any other game console. So I’m definitely sympathetic to the platform. But “Rage” is not a viable option on the Wii because of the technology. We’ve been pitched and talked about a project to do a title that would fit well on the Wii, and it’s actually related to an iPhone title that we’re doing. But that’s still kind of up in the air as to what other developer we would partner with on there. I’d like to do something there, because I love a lot of what Nintendo has done with the Wii and the DS, but it’s just out of sync with the developments that are currently going on at id.
MTV Multiplayer: Do you feel you’d have to create a new IP? Or at least a new game from the ground up for the Wii?
Carmack: Yeah, it would have to be a completely different game. We would use one of our existing IPs where we have a little bit of leverage. It’s not something that really any of our titles, that are under development currently would be appropriate for.
Mr. Carmack goes on to discuss some of his iPhone projects, and in doing so, we hear about the one title that may relate to Wii development…
…We have another title, which isn’t announced formally, and we’ve been working with a partner company here locally in Dallas, that is designed from scratch for the iPhone but using some existing id assets on there. And it’s very graphically impressive but we don’t have an official release date for it yet. We’re having various challenges with that development.
That’s where MTV picks up with the Wii questioning once again…
MTV Multiplayer: So that one particular iphone title you mentioned that you’re having trouble with — is that the one that will potentially be a Wii title?
Carmack: Yes, it could possibly lead into it. Not directly from that, but a very similar concept for something.
And I know that’s very cryptic. [laughs] But we haven’t made an official announcements about it because we’ve had some difficulties during the development. And we don’t want to announce something and then retract it. We want to make sure it turns out good before we actually talk about it.
Capcom has high hopes that the upcoming Wii-exclusive Monster Hunter 3 finds the same monstrous success in the West as it has in Japan.
During the Osaka, Japan-based publisher's earnings call for the December quarter, Capcom stated "...We plan to release our leading titles overseas to acquire game users, as the overseas market for Wii is extensive.
"One of our leading titles is Monster Hunter 3. ... If we can gain recognition of this product in the European and North American markets, our market strategy will see a noticeable change."
The Monster Hunter action role-playing franchise is a big hit, primarily in Japan, selling over 6.3 million units as of December 2008, with Monster Hunter 3 for Wii slated for release later this year. Previously, the series had only appeared on PS2 and PSP.
Capcom Entertainment communications director Chris Kramer elaborated on Capcom execs' comments in an e-mail to Edge: "Monster Hunter is huge in Japan, but not as big in the U.S. and Europe. There is a desire on the part of the company to export this huge hit to the rest of the world at the same level it is received in Japan.
"If we can sell a few more million units, the company’s market share will definitely change."
Originally, Capcom planned to develop Monster Hunter 3 for PS3. However, in light of the Wii's popularity and exploding installed base, Capcom announced in 2007 that it would be moving development of the title away from Sony's platform in favor of Nintendo's.
"If we can gain recognition of this product in the European and North American markets, our market strategy will see a noticeable change."
So.............. it's another fucking test? Capcoooooooooooooooooooooooooom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm happy with tests such as monster hunter 3 ... i'll be glad to take it and i hope the whole class of gamers passes that with flying colours.
on the other hand i'm not happy with tests like Chop Till You Puke and i hope the whole class of gamers gives that the two-fingered salute it deserves.
capcom may just learn a good lesson from their pupils

The tests should have been over when RE4, RE UC and Red Steel all sold over a million. Why are publishers now watching Segas latest releases with a cautious eye? We should be past that, by the time some publishers get their minds right, the generation will be over. MH3 is a good test though.
Also following on from that Carmack interview:
MTV Multiplayer: And if there’s a Wii title, would you see yourself being heavily involved in that?
Carmack:There’s an interesting bit of technology — the idea is that we would be setting up the game in such a way that we would deal with some of the “Rage” content pipeline for the Wii. While we can’t do a freeform game like that, we could do a limited-scope game in a particular way so there would be a core bit of technology to develop there that would let it do something really visually stunning in a more limited game framework. And that would be the work that I would set off at the beginning of that. But that’s something we’ve had brief discussions with publishers [about]. At this point, we’re making sure that the core gameplay actually works out well first before inking anything.
that quote of carmack's ... is it really just fancy talk for saying that he could basically use assets from his proper game to make a light-gun on-rails game for wii?
I just watched that Dead Rising Wii IGN video review. Talk about pathetic! There's no way in hell it's the Wii's fault why there are less than 10 zombies on screen that barely move. Capcom seriously half-assed that game. Shame on you, Crapcom!
Damn Singularity looks nice. Reminds me of Bioshock for some reason. The artstyle?
But yeah it makes sense that RE5 isn't on the Wii. The Wii version would just be gimped down it would be best if Capcom would have just created a ground up version of the series for the Wii instead.
And damn at those Last Remenant System Requirements.
I have a blog just for you.
Yes I read the blog but the difference between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 is that 4 was crafted solely for the Gamecube. The environments, events, stages, enemies, etc. It wouldn't mesh well with the Wii. That's like saying because Skies of Arcadia was great for the Dreamcast then porting Lost Odyessy to it would be just fine and dandy.

IMHO you're coming at it from completely the wrong angle. But I can't be bothered to start a whole new debate. No offence meant man.
For a game composed entirely of viscera, gratuitous swearing and gross-out moments that are simply wrong, you’ve got to admit that The House Of The Dead: Overkill has real class.
From the first flickering XXX screen warning ‘restricted access’, illustrated by a wheelchair, to the inspired OST and the unbelievable ending, everything about it screams detail, polish and – most of all – love for the source material. It falls down with its bosses which, come across as big lumps with weak spots rather than threats. A more fundamental letdown is the difficulty level. Overkill isn’t a particularly challenging experience, even with the ‘Extra Mutants’ option enabled.
The Director’s Cut unlocked after a first run-through lengthens every level, usually at the beginning, and limits you to three continues on each one.
There are enough compensations to counter these letdowns, and it’s difficult to be too nitpicky about one of the most flat-out entertaining games of recent times.
Overkill resurrects an old franchise as anything but a shambling corpse, and raises the bar for thirdparty production values on this generation’s best-selling console. Bet you’re a believer in gun control now.

It was a pretty insulting game both to Wii owners and to fans of the original. I knew the game was going to be half-assed from the beginning as soon as the first round of screenshots were shown. And the fact that Capcom wasn't previewing the game out to the gaming media spoke volumes. But this video review. . . wow. The game is just ugly. Ugly and lazy.
I very rarely hope that a game does poorly in sales. Hell I was even supportive of Wii Music. But in this case I hope the game completely tanks. I want Capcom to regret making this game.
Yeah I'm a bit disappointed with how X-Blades seems to have turned out but really it's not that bad anyway since I have a ton of games to occupy my time and money regardless. I'll probably at least give it a rental later on.
Famitsu gave RE5 an excellent review. Actually I think most every site will since I'd consider anything 8 and above to be a great game.
I'm very happy that Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter 3 out in the West. I'm very interested in checking it out to see what this series is like.
I'm taking a pass on Mad World since I have way too many other games I want to purchase ahead of it plus I don't really think I can get over the Black & White. Right now I'm thinking of just making a rental of it later on down the road.
I'm definately not surprised how Dead Rising CTYD turned out. If you want that kind of experience then the 360 version is the way to go.

As for Dead Rising at this point if you haven't played the first I would say just skip straight to the second. They've made it clear that they are aware of all the criticisms of the first game so the sequel should fix those. I might get it for my bro.

They are predicting half a million sales. Did you read the PR piece on Gamedaily they wrote?
Sorry GG I love Platinum Games and all and the game looks like twisted, gory, and solid fun it's just I have limited funds and right now there isn't a game I really want to swap out to make room and buy in it's place plus the whole black & white thing just isn't winning me over. Right now I have Street Fighter IV, Halo Wars, Star Ocean 4, Resident Evil 5, and a PS3 that I'll be buying in the next couple of months so my funds are pretty much all tied up right now.

I saw it. I wasn't impressed with it. Whoever wrote it was seemingly contradicting a lot of sales data that Capcom has previously published. He said that Zack & Wikki didn't sell well, despite previous releases from Capcom that claimed it sold higher than their expectations. He said that Viewtiful Joe sold poorly. . . yeah so poorly that they cranked out a sequel to the original in less than a year after the original was released.
It was all just justified crap. Once again, I hope it tanks and pulls a Daikatana.

"Chop Till You Drop, however, under-performs not just in comparison to the 360 game, but even compared to other Wii games. It feels rushed, cheapened and does the console an injustice in just about every way. "
"The game takes ages to load different areas, even if that area is a single, empty, pointless room. The cutscenes look so blurry it's offensive, and we're pretty sure there are sharper textures in GoldenEye 007 on N64 than on some surfaces in this. It doesn't do the Wii justice at all. Not even in the control stakes. "
"It's a real shame because, even on the less powerful Wii, this could and should have been a lot better than it is. Even if the 360 version didn't exist, Chop Till You Drop still underperforms and underdelivers in almost every area. If you had high hopes, lower them and you just might see past its faults."

Yeowch. I really hope that Capcom learns something from this port too far. And that companies like EA are actually reactive to consumers complaints about on-railing games. After the Extraction reaction.

Umm ... no.
So why do still own a Wii?
Because like I've said before I have it to play Nintendo games and the VC mostly. I do pick up the occasional 3rd party title as well.

Carmack (id) continues to tease Wii development

That’s where MTV picks up with the Wii questioning once again…
