Sonofa...!
This is one big bastard.
I'm hoping they bring that retail version of the DLC over to the PS3 eventually. $40 for two full size games is a great deal.
I think it would be great if they took it to the middle east next, with various trips to London and Dubai. It could be about a young man from the region who has friends on both sides on the "war on terror". Writes itself, and gets off this US city train (and raises some necessary controversy for free pub).Speaking of WTF with Infinity Ward including a suicide bombing mission ala Mumbai last year? Tasteless jerks just lost a customer.
If the rumor about the PSP4000 going back to UMD is true then there's another feather in my prediction hat (you should see it... hang on...) :
The PSPGo was just a vanity project / trial balloon to see if they could get away with digital disribution only. They can't. Bring on the new handhelds (but please make them backward compatible).
- - The Wii2 system will feature a Blu-Ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.
-
- 1080P and lower resolutions will be supported, for blu-ray movies and games.
-
- The release date is scheduled for third quarter of 2010.
-
- The release will be worldwide and on the same day for all countries.
-
- A scheme will be available in which it is possible to trade in the original Wii for a cheaper price on the new Wii 2.
"Told you so! But it'll be called Wii Plus!"Not bad for a PSP port. Y'all have played Chinatown yeah? It was probably my GOTY until Uncharted2.
You know if Nintendo actaully did bring out a Wii Plus and had an offer to trade-in your original Wii towards it I'd go for a deal like that.
As would I.
Sadly it's selling worse on the PSP than it did on the DS (which frankly wasn't bad at all), at least if Amazon.com's sales charts are remotely in the ballpark. According to them, the game never made it into their Top 100 video games/accessories. In fact, just a little over a week since its release it's now not even in the PSP's top 10 selling games. I know Amazon isn't the perfect barometer but it's usually not too far off the mark.
Then again maybe it's just being downloaded through the millions of PSPgo's that are out there... oh wait.
Seriously though, if it even charts in the NPD's top 20 I'll be shocked. I don't foresee it selling more than around 40K copies for its first month.
"What I'm hearing is that Nintendo originally planned to bring the Netflix service to the Wii before the end of this year, which still might take place, but that Nintendo is also considering holding off on the Netflix service until they release their next generation Wii HD unit in early 2010." - Dan Rayburn
"I don't think it's likely at all. Nintendo will use commodity components, and that one is still too expensive." - Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter
Jesse Divnich of EEDAR said, "A Blu-ray enabled Wii makes a lot more sense than the integration of Blu-ray in the Xbox 360, mostly because Nintendo is not competing with Sony in their current target demographic, and vice versa. But this will change with Sony introducing a motion controller in 2010 and the aforementioned need for Nintendo to create a migration path for its maturing consumer base. Still, the rumors of this being the key element of the next generation Wii seem off.
A Blu-ray/1080p addition to the Wii makes no sense if that's all that's being offered. Publishers will be reluctant to release two physical versions of each game - particularly given the expense of Blu-ray discs. This will lead to a fragmented hardware and software market. The industry is also already facing inventory management issues. Where would retailers get the shelf space for this? Essentially, it literally doubles the shelf-space at retailers for Wii titles. It's the same problem retailer's face today with movie releases in both Blu-ray and DVD format.
To capture the maturing Wii consumer however, Nintendo will have to go beyond just Blu-ray. A next generation Wii is going to need better built-in storage capacity, improved online functionality, improved processing and graphics capabilities, backwards compatibility and still be affordable to the mainstream. It's going to be a challenge to deliver at the price point necessary, but if Nintendo plays their cards right, they are certainly capable of achieving it."
"The DSi carries a relatively high $169 price point, and the DSi XL is likely to be priced even higher, making the purchase of a $199 iPod Touch more tempting for gift givers. While we think that the DS is a superior gaming platform, the iPod is a more versatile device, and has a 'coolness' factor that is difficult to overcome. It is possible that piracy in Europe and some substitution of iPod Touch games has impacted DS software sales more than we expected, and we will monitor DS software sales going forward to determine if these factors continue to threaten Nintendo’s business. We think that Wii software sales will reflect far more seasonality going forward than has historically been the case, given the incredible popularity of Wii hardware among more casual households. Third parties have had difficulty reaching these households, and Nintendo has proven adept at providing just the right software to its large installed base," he said. "We think that Super Mario Bros. Wii could be a surprise success, as we think that game will resonate with Nintendads (those fathers who grew up playing Nintendo games and who now have an opportunity to play the multiplayer Mario game with their children). We also think that lower pricing on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will provide consumers with a more difficult choice when considering a new console. The Wii enjoyed a $350 price advantage over the PS3 at launch, and a $150 advantage until last month. Now, the gap has narrowed to $100, with the feature-laden PS3 a tempting purchase for prospective console households."
I wonder if this deal is good for online too. My local Target just has a sad, sad, sad selection of video games and most of them are of the Carnival Games variety.
Really? If so, that's sad.
There is a better chance of aliens landing in my front yard than this happening.
I would be all over it as well... if it launched with Zelda. (or makes my Wii games HD)
Yeah... But we're dreaming. That ain't going to happen, no matter how nervous Iwata sounds right now.
"We think that Super Mario Bros. Wii could be a surprise success"
" Super Mario Bros. Wii could be a surprise success"
" Super Mario Bros. Wii COULD BE A SURPRISE success"
What in the fuck. Way to go out on a limb Pachter! Thats why they pay you the big bucks to make bold predictions like that.
How convenient of them to do this two weeks before NSMB hits...
FFS he even managed to get that one wrong. It's not going to be a surprise.
