I'd like to take a moment and state the obvious for just a moment. The "Marcus" campaign for the PSP officially sucks. I've been seeing it several times over the last few nights as it gets run during Family Guy (which is part of my going to bed routine).
The commercial just fails. There's not enough product shots, not enough games are shown and they're not shown long enough, and there's too much focus on Marcus. Last time I checked, Marcus wasn't for sale. Making the spokesperson more of a focus point than the product rarely works out that well.
Plus as time goes on Marcus and whathisname's banter gets less and less funny and much more annoying. I admit I thought it was funny the first time I saw him. Now I just want him to get touched in a bad way by his scout master or at the very least gets forced to "experiment" with one of the counciler's at summer camp.
Yeah they are funny skits, but a commercial needs to showcase the product and make you want it. There are some messed up adverts I've seen which are all abstract and then just the product name at the end. It was nice watching but it doesn't make me want to buy it.
There are times when that's an appropriate thing to do. Something like perfume or cologne for instance. You can't get the primarly selling point across via TV (the smell), so you have to do the next best thing and make it memorable. That's why so many of those get so damned strange. This however does not apply to videogames though. So yeah, Marcus should die.

Apparently you can tell its real time by the low poly models.
Fixed for great justice
Trials HD is awesome, BTW.
And this is why the Move will be a disaster in terms of sales. Nobody cares, only PS3 owners that like Wii controls will get it.
So, just you then!
yup! But I dont want to pay all that money so screw it.
Leo, I know you got this. Is it really that good?
Also, 1up gave Toy Story 3 a A-?
What's up with these licensed games getting AAA scores?

My guess is: (I have not seen the ads, just saying)
+ After the "personality" driven success of Kevin Butler they focus tested to find what demos it was not working with. Hrmmm... clueless white man in authority with a job he seems not to be qualified for, who would that not appeal to?
+ So to balance that out they added "Poochie". It makes sense that the first part of the campaign would emphasize the new character and that his role would diminish once it is established who he is.
Said Iwata, "I have heard commentary that people feel that Nintendo’s online functionality is behind the others or is lacking in some ways. And I can say that we are not currently satisfied with the online efforts that we have made so far, and we are working at ways to improve those."
That's new. Usually they deflect that and talk about built-in wifi/ virtual console etc...
Hey, MS got the same kind of demo to gobble up Mii's. Remember the hostility? Now they hunt down special T-shirts for their avatars.
Also, consider that for the rabid Sony crowd, they don't have Wii's, now for a $100 they can have motion controls without "shaming" themselves.
Move's problem is price. Who wouldn't want a better Motion+ on an HD system like the PS3? Would I get it if they whole thing cost $60. Absolutely.
