Fans of the original will be VERY happy to know, it is indeed a true sequel, starting off with Issun the Celestial Envoy walking in the green fields of Nippon! Taking place just 9 months after the first, the game begins with a lengthy recap of the Legend of Shiranui and Nagi, Amaterasu and Susano, and then jumps right into Chibi and Issun!

The game has the same BEAUTIFUL wood-cut, water-color, cel-shaded graphics as the original, but the view is pulled much closer to Chibi, obivously to allow for graphics of that style on the simpler DS Hardware. The NPC's have the same "voices" and nuances to their animation, as does Chibi. You'll see him Yawn, Lay-Down and generally ignore Issun, looking off into the distance, as he gives his typical Envoy speeches. Priceless!

Copious color is used in the environment from the Purple Skies to the Multi-Colored flowers that pop up in the Puppies path. The brush controls are now (of course) stylus-based and the drawing sequence is now initiated by pressing the "L" or "R" buttons on top of the DS. You don't have to hold these down as you draw. Simply press the button once and you are given a reasonable time-limit to draw your strokes. Ink Pots are still used to meter this and refills, as well as other collectibles, are found via breaking pots and other objects in the field.

Battles still take place within a cordoned-off, Purple Energy Field as in the first game and Chibi has the use of his mom's Divine Instruments to fight with.

I am still too early in the game to see if other Okami features like the 'Fame' meter or the 'Demon Fang' collectibles are present in the game, or not!

^ You know, on that: I would SWEAR that Pokemon Black and White have some sort of 3DS compatibility built into them. Between the 3D view of the towns, the intro to the Battles and other Animations that would normally be used to Show off 3D effects (leaves floating in the wind, for example) either Game Freak was thinking ahead to a quick and dirty port of the game to 3DS (Pokemon Gray 3DS!) --OR-- something will happen when they are inserted into a proper 3DS system.

I got Okamiden, have not played it yet. Finally a DS game I actually really want to play.  I will start it soon but it sucks that I will see it in muddy color vision, stupid DS fat.
